Hi Guys,

Driving home just now, i went to put it into 1st and it wouldn't go. I pumped the clutch tried 3nd, still no go. Then got it into 2nd and then went straight up into 1st. Next set of lights the same. While driving the clutch/gears are fine, goes up and down through the gears fine. So what could be wrong??

Any info would be great, it is a 93 4 runner V6

Thanks

i have this prob sometime aswell, so i'm interested in seeing what is said. we changed the slave cylinder, but every now and then i have trouble with the gears, sometimes crunches a lil going in reverse, sometimes hard to get first. but normally after a few pumps of the clutch she is normally alright. but yeah, i think it may be the master cylinder.

also, how was your clutch? spongy, loose or normal. if it's loose or spongier than normal you may have goten air in the lines. have you tried bleeding the line?

hey guys. gotta 88 4runner with the g52 gearbox and had similar but found a worn thingy in the guides at the gear lever end. four bolts and a quick looksee should tell you if the problem's there but don't put it back wrong cos it only goes in one way. also found this problem is worse when it is hot.

if it goes in easy after you been sitting with clutch in for a bit id say worn synchros.

they're normally pretty good.

seems like the fork isn't throwing far enough or the syncs are on they're way. where does the clutch grab, how far from the bottom?

had the same problem, had to adjust the pushrod on the master cylinder.

The Clutch grabs roughly a third of the way up from the floor. I do have some trouble with the clutch from time to time. What happens is when you let it up, when it gets to three quarters of its travel from the floor (the clutch is well and truly engaged by then) the pedal sticks and then shudders up under my foot. The pedal hasn't done this for 6 or 7 months. I adjusted the clutch under the pedal and is basically on maximum travel. At christmas I gave the clutch a good bleed and renewed the oil and it has been pretty good. I get a dribble of oil on the bottom of the bellhousing, and the very occasional clutch shudder so I think the rear main leaks a little, but i believe this is unrelated. I will give it another bleed and see what happens.

That I've run into before with siezed or almost siezed thrust bearings, although they normally don't pick specific gears not to work on. Get yourself a light and a mechanics mirror and have a squiz into the bell housing to see what you can see!! Lift the boot on the clutch activating fork (don't tear it tho!!)

And I have seen the same problem with the pedal on a car that had been in a prang and had bent the clutch fork. Everything else got repaired but that wasn't found until sometime after, and it was a bit of a pain to fix, 'cos the entire gearbox had to come out just to replace the clutch fork!! Although if yours is a similar problem, at least you'll be able to get the rear main fixed at the same time! But if you are on max adjust for the Clutch anyhow, it just might be time for a change!! You can get all the other bits fixed when you change the clutch! Check out the Xtreme range of 4wd Clutches, xtreme outback >> 4wd performance clutch (http://www.xtremeoutback.com.au)

Those clutches almost look too good to hide.
