Hi guys n girls ,Thinking of getting the other half a 100 series or maybe a 80 Series Cruiser. Has there been real tests on the Petrol usage for these vehicles... City and Country Driving.......
Yes I know they use a lot of petrol but can I get an idea litres per 100k's (I liked MPG why'd they change).
Yes I'm getting a 2'' lift and ARB bull bar Warn winch rear wheel carrier roof rack internal drawer and fridge (Did I say its for the missus?)
No I don't want an oil burner (yes they are great I know).....
I'll eventually convert to Gas but not straight off.......

Wish I had have done the same but I got a N/A 105.Now I gotta spend five grand to get the power up to what the petrol already has.
Anyway, you can expect any where up to 25lt/100kms in heavy goen and around 18-20lt/100 normal goen.Plenty of power, strong gearbox ,good motor cheap to buy but costs a bit to run.

From what Ive heard ,the V8 petrol engines seem to use less than the older 1FZ FE

i have a 100s 4.5 petrol/lpg
the best i get out of unleaded (highway driving is about 6k/L or 17L/100km
lpg is much more cost effective, i get about 4k/L or 25L/100km
since lpg is half the price is works out pretty good.
around town dont expect any better than 25L/100km and in slow or
heavy offroad/sand driving it goes up massively, i'm scared to think how much.
i have a 2 inch lift, 33's and a roof rack, i got 50km less per tank of lpg after fitting 33in mud tyres
On a loaded trip towing a 13ft tinny i get about 550km out of 95L unleaded and about 350km out of a 92L lpg tank.
i have heard the v8 is better on fuel but don't personally know anyone with a v8

A mate that had a 4.5L auto used to get at best 16L/100km, it was pretty standard with only an alloy bullbar fitted.
When you put larger muds on, lift the suspension, add more weight and use a heavier foot the sky really is the limit, anything up to 30L/100km.
I've got a 4.5l 100 5 speed manual with a 2 inch lift and I get around 17 - 18 litres/100 kays around town in city traffic. Yes this does go up when offroad but I think its a small price to pay for comfort, power and lots of room.

agreed, the power is what sold me, my budget at the time didn't allow for a turbo deisel wich were selling for around 10k more for an equivalent petrol and the n/a deisel was just to underpowered for my likings, i actually had to look down and check if i was in low range the first time i drove an n/a deisel 100s as it was so slow off the mark, so an auto petrol on LPG got the nod.

I have a 2001 ,105 seriers,petrol/auto. Travel every day to work and on average its around 16L/100k. When I tow my race bike trailer (fully enclosed) with bike and gear etc its still roughly the same maybe 17-18L/100k.
The worste consumption I had was the other week in the Newcastle storms, head on wind and driving rain .I got like 20-21L/100K

I purchased one recently with the intention of going straight to an LPG conversion. The kit is ordered & should be fitted up in a few weeks. After much research here & around the place I used the assumption it would be getting around 20l/100K and getting worse when towing or putting your foot down. This has proven about right.
It's fitted with 285/75/16 BFG All Terrain T/A's & a 2inch lift, no roof rack.
After a few thousand k's it has shown a best of 16.84l/100k when cruising some country roads at around 90 to 100 kph, 2 up & only lightly loaded with basic overnight camping gear.
Around town has been 20 to 22l/100k.
Highway cruising at 105 to 110 kph, 7 up & midly loaded up off road trailer on a 700k weekend round trip showed 19.84l/100k.
I'm yet to tow my boat on a decent trip (5m and very un - aerodynamic & about 1000kg). I would expect it to be in the 22 to 25 range.
I like a bit of power, so had a serious toss up between purchasing a diesel & turboing it to get some power, or petrol & lpg 'ing it to get some reasonable economy.
In the end it came down to running both scenarios through my internally scripted and patented mathematical formula which in part, involves taking the square root of the initial purchase price and modification costs, less any applicable rebates, then multilpied by 7.5 % of the estimated 5 yr running costs of each, this figure was divided by Pi for a final outcome.
To be fair, both scenarios were then cross referenced against pythagoras' theorem to calculate the total amount spent in 5 yrs against the overall long term depreciation & 5 yr forecasted value.
So to cut a long story short, the petrol / lpg option won for me because I found a low milage unit in great nick for a fair price & most of my regular trips are 300 to 400k each way towing the boat, which also happens to suit the expected LPG range.

I also seem to be getting the 20L/100 mark for petrol. But I do most of my city work on Gas. I was lucky enough to find mine all done with the top of the range Parnell Vapour Gas Injection. It's worth around $4500 minus the rebates. It also has the twin tanks tucked neatly under the belly with decent bash plates protecting them. I can get around 370km with the 70L of gas with no power loss at all.
So if you buy try and keep $2500 aside for the gas or find one all done.
Good Luck.

hey all,
i have an '04 GXL petrol V8 and it uses 15-16.5 litres/100km on road and around 20-22 fully loaded off road.
it has steel toyota bull bar, winch and 285/75x16 Dueler Muddies.
in my opinion the performance on and off road is spot on.
if anything, the stock suspension isnt great and could do with an upgrade so it doesnt feel like the pasha bulka.
the $12000 difference between td and petrol sort of put me off.

Thanks for all the replies really good results....Its a rolling mass not a sewing machine and I want the power and the comfort......So Duel Fuel is the go which has pros and cons
Bought the 80 series of a dodgey salesperson is there any other type??
It had a service history and it all made sense...went over it RACV it brother in law mechanic it....
To get it to touring status the following was done - A face lift a tummy tuck a brow lift recoloring of the hair a butt extension a pearl white teeth course legs lengthened laser eye surgery ......Ohh sorry thats what I would like for me...;-)
A ARB Steel bull bar, 12,000lb Winch 2 Narva 100watt spots 2 Zeil Spots ( 4 Rectangles Zeil Spots n flood to go on Roof Rack) 2" OME Shocks n Springs lift (ended up 11") previous springs where sagged ,cargo barrier , Black widow drawers Waeco 50 lt Fridge a Waeco 40lt Fridge , DVD MP4 GPS 7" Touch Screen ,UHF GME Tx ,Off Road GPS Safari Snorkel, LPG 120 Lt Tank.
Now whats it do when its a Full load of 90 litres of petrol 92 Litres LPG 4 adults ,ARB rack with all the gear, fully pack rear, fridges included...
To Beachport on a tank of LPG it did 480kms (60kms around Geelong)
I'd reckon I could squeeze 500k's on a tank Petrol around the same
So Country clicks 19.16 litres to 100 Kilometers - 5.217 Km's per Litre
In the old book 14.7 MPG
On the sand YEEEEEHHHAAAARRRR Beachport to Robe 1/2 a tank of LPG around 45 litres for 50 km's almost 1 litre per 1 Km Holy Cow Batman!!!
Tyres are next BFG KM2's not sure what size Ill go 33"x 16"?????

Great rig there!! I absolutely loved mine. for the record:
with 285x75x16 tyres, 2"lift, drawers loaded at all times and a roof rack fitted it used 18-22ltrs/100kms around town regularly. Country driving with heavy load at 110kph on open road it used 20-24ltrs/100kms, fully loaded towing KK camper trailer it used 25-26ltrs/100kms, in heavy sand off roading it used 25-30ltrs/100kms and in slow going rocky trails it used 18-20ltrs/100kms.
My mate went to esperance in his 100series 4.5ltr petrol along with 2 x 100 series v8's and he claims they all used more fuel than his?
My 4.5 ltr petrol was incredibly reliable and the power made it lovely to drive expecially around town and in the sand. They are a bloody good engine.
Mate, I have just bought a 4.5 Auto, and it suprised me. Being careful with the left foot I am getting between 17 & 18 l/100ks around town, yet to see on a long highway trip or towing. Bearing in mind that diesels are around 10k more, it is a lot of petrol before you break even.

Hi!
Bought my 2003 GXL V8 Auto 100 Series six months ago. It is my daily drive and I get 16 to 17 litres/100 around town depending on traffic and I can get around 14 on the highway if I stick to 95 to 100kph. Plant the boot much harder and watch the needle on the fuel gauge drop. I towed my 17' full caravan (1750kg) from Victoria Point to Woodgate in January with a tailwind and I was pleasantly suprised to get 20.3ltrs/100. Different story on the way home driving into a 40knot SE wind and couldn't do better than 25/100. I drove at between 90 and 100kph.
I crunched the number and did my homework before I decided on the V8. My calculations were based on 15,000 k's per year for 10 years and I used Toyota's fuel consumption figures, service intervals and costs, the average price of ULP and Diesel and the consideration the it would cost an average of $12K more for a 4.2ltr TD is similar condition and low kilometers. It worked out that I would still be ahead after 10 years with the V8 which is much smoother and quieter and has that wonderful grunt that you can only get from a V8. Very happy with my decision.
Cheers
i got a 4.5 petrol auto 100 series with all the shit on it...........the way i saw it was to by a turbo diesel, it was a extra 20k at least and to start, that is a lot of fuel................then all the extra interest on that 20k!
u also get independant front end which is shit and cost you heaps more for all your mods just because it has independent.
yeah she is heavy on the juice but i still reckon i am way ahead $$$ wise

I just picked up an 02 GXL this afternoon for the better half. Next closest turbo I could find was 18g more with almost double the k's and a year older. Mines only got 85k's on it and is immaculate all round.
My missus would be lucky to do 150-200k's a week so im not too worried about the extra fuel usage. Plus I hear the 4.5 petrol is near on bulletproof and should something happen its relatively cheap to repair.
I would prefer the Turbo any day of the week but no way Im paying double what I did for the privilege.

I've only had my 98 model V8 now for 3 weeks, so no real consumption tests done as I am still enjoying the torque available. Quick look though tells me that I'm getting approx 400 km around town from a full tank to the last quarter mark of the fuel gauge.

Out of curiosity, I am putting a Gen 3 into my 105, can some of you guys tell me what times your petrol auto's do for 0 - 100 km/h ??
Thanks

Bushpig59,
Don't hold your breath on the 33' BFG Muddy KM2's. I think the only 16" ones available for the next 18 months will be 35" .
Here is the first lot of KM2 sizes in the US, some of which will be here in June from what I hear.

About 3 days and a half a tank.
A gen 3 in a 105 should be interesting. Get a mafless dyno tune and you should get 300kw at the fly. Does the trans match up or you pulling that too.

Definitely should be interesting, I had a Gen III (255kw standard) in my 02 Maloo R8 and I loved it. Only problem I can see is the earlier ones at least were pretty slack under 3000 rpm, are u doing anything to fatten that up a bit?? Are u putting it into a manual or an auto cruiser?? Your obviously not real worried about fuel consumption, I used to get at best 20L/100 around town being very very nice to it. And that was in a much more aerodynamic, lighter car that was not constant 4wd. My 100 series I have now with the 4.5L petrol gets better than that at around 16-18L/100.
Either way make sure u run full twin 2 1/2's with high flow cats and some nice free flowing mufflers (turbomax maybe?? cant remember) and it sounded absolutely awesome.
Let us know how it goes!!

:( 20L/100km that's a tad high for gen3, I would of had that looked at.
I had a vx berlina wagon (aka heavy bus) before tune/exhaust/extractors it was high 13's after it was mid 11's around town.
Also maybe easier to run single 3.5" on the cruiser. Sureflo exhaust in Sydney made one for me and shipped to my door, top quality at affordable prices.

Hey Mate,
I did have it looked at, to be honest I am pretty sure the HSV versions were a whole lot thirstier than the standard holden engines. It had some ECU work done and the full exhaust and that was the figure it come up with constantly. On the highway it was a different story, it usually sat on 10.5 though I had trips that were 9.6 and one trip that was particularly quick, averaged well over a hundred k's over 550kms and it was 8.8/100.
It was an auto, and i'm sure that that made a fair bit the difference.
Either way it was a nice engine and I did love it, despite the consumption and it's taste for expensive fuel. Ran horribly on standard premium, only liked Ultimate and Optimax.
Whats the engine coming out of??
