Hi Guys.

I have a 1HZ in my 75 series and i have noticed first thing in the morning or if the car has been sitting around at work all day when i go to start it, i will need to crank it over for a few more seconds than normal, and then when it does start the idle will be a little bit rough untill it has been running for 20-30 seconds. Where as if the car has just been sitting for an hour and the car is still a slight bit warm it would start first kick.

Now i was wondering would this just mean it needs a new glow plug as it isnt properly heating the cylinders before start up?

If anyone could shed some light on the situation that would be great.

Cheers Ben
P.S. the car click 200,000 km's yesterday. and at the turn of the ODO the timing belt light came on :) at least the K's may be right. hehe

You described exactly what my hilux was doing and glowplugs fixed it.

Ben,

You have described the symptoms of a failed glow plug or 2 quite well.

Remove the buss bar joining the 6 glow plugs together and get a multimeter or test light and check for continuity through each glowplug - no continuity = failed plug.

If one or more is out you can just change the one, however if they are all the same age then it may pay to change the 6 of them.
