Thanksive used a 2 peice one before and went back to a one peice yellow handled one! much stronger and strong enough not to snap if yah run it over! and to put it on roof rack i just made a shovelholder out of two trailer jockey wheel holders! works a treat and when your not cartin your shovel the brackets come off and sit in my door!

I use the Quickfist rubber holders for my long handle shovel attached to the roof rack. I bought them at ARB. I bought two sets, one for the shovel and the other for my surf ski paddle. The holders stay attached to the roof rack. I think they cost about $20.00 a set.

somebody said you shouldn't google for "quickfist" cos it comes up with all sorts of things. well i just did it to see, and the clamps were the first one that came up. in fact i went through the first 4 pages and didn't find dirty one.... how disappointing!

if you need to buy the shovel i;d suggest a good quality wooden handled one as i have broken 2X of the new fibreglass ones...
You may get splinters but they last longer

If you got no room in car for a long handled shovel, you had better stay on the bitumen....so you had better make room for the shovel. One piece is strongest, but considering that you plan on using it to move sand (light duty stuff), you may as well cut it in half and use a steel pipe sleeve with retainer bolts on it to assemble it. It's not the strongest way to do it, but as long as u only use it for sand, it should be fine.

Or you could try the Rugged Outdoor Kit.
Welcome to Opposite Lock (http://www.oppositelock.com.au/redesign/department/productDetails.aspx?deptID=13&catID=33&itemID=RGTK1) (I know what it says, but it should link straight to the toolkit!)
I think that they are available thru most big name accessory places too. They work if you don't have much space, but a full size shovel is generally easier and more efficient to use, just not quite as versatile. But you can still use the blade section to cook your bacon & eggs for breakfast, just so long as you have a littler shovel or spade in the toilet kit!

A set of 4 quickfist arrived yesterday. Installed them last night. Seems to hold the shovel well but the true test will be when I'm out on the tracks. I'll let you know how it goes.
I bought them from this site if you are interested cost me just under 19 pounds or about $45.

i've got one of those rugged outdoor kits, the misses bought it for me a couple of years ago as a birthday present. they're not a bad little kit, only problem i had was the spring washers supplied were to fat and made it hard to do up, bought 2 smaller ones and problem was solved. they have a few different attachments, mines got a shovel, axe head, hammer head and saw blade from memory. dosen't get alot of use, mainly the shovel for the toilet but handy to have sitting on the floor of the fourbie anyways.

After allways having a shovel under the tray of the hilux I didn't know where to put one on the landcruiser.
Until someone told me they saw one under the bonnet.
So I made up a couple of brackets and cut a few of inches of the handle and I'm very happy with it.;)
