had the day off work so i decided to have a look at the motor. took the sump off and wamm!! half a cup full of shards of metal. the third from the front piston had shattered.:( just over half of it was still intact and joined to the rod. i had a feel around the bore and i couldnt feel any cuts or gashes etc shined the old 1 mill candle power spottie up there and it seemed pretty clean hopefully pull the old girl down tonight and work out what im going to do. fingers crossed i can just slap a new piston in.;) ill try take some photos too. anyone know were i can get pistons from??

first I'd take the rocker cover off then drop the sump off and have a looksey. Could be one of number of things......it does sound a little bleak for the wallet

If your gonna put a different engine in it then you may as well get something worth the effort. 1UZ, LS1.... etc.
a 308 wouldn't be worth the effort IMO.
Or you could pull the engine and give it a freshen up and learn a few things along the way.
