View Full Version : The new tech sections

These sections have been created so people have a specific place to go and chat about their preferred make of vehicle.

Please note, no flaming (abuse) of other makes is allowed.

Use this as a place to ask that specific question about your vehicle, or why not post any of your DIY how-to's up for other members?

In time we'll look at adding some new moderators who only have moderator access in their specific forum, and these will most likely be the gurus of each of makes who know a fair bit and are willing to help newcomers out. If you'd like to apply, please PM me.

Enjoy

Brendon,
If I may...

This seems to make it near impossible to "browse" a few regular forums.
For instance, at least once a day I hit, General/ Tech/ Members rigs.
I often find interesting posts in Tech that I would otherwise miss if just looking under my own brand, if you follow...
Now, I realise it's great for page impressions, but would it be possible to have a "view posts since your last visit" type button?

Thanks,
Josh.

just my opinion and maybe its just me!! i like the idea of tech section for each type but is seems that we are having too many areas inwhich to post things in and making it harder to find and check all the posts you make or want to catch up on- its like a jumbled mess!
anyone else out there thinking a similare sort of thing!???

cheers

Thanks Beej.
Looks like that's the only way to keep up with what's going on now there are 28. (yes, 28) different places to post. *sigh*
Thanks again,
Josh.

The new posts is the easiest way to see whats going on. It was one of the best features when the forum changed to this style. I find if you try to look through every section even before the new ones it was a pain. By using the new posts buton I can read the titles and read what interests me. Its also good for catching topics that may have fallen off the first page due to a lot of use in that area ;)

what would be perfect would be a "new posts" button next to each section name:
ie: Tech------> new posts.
Toyota
Mits
Nissan
Holden

etc etc.

I want a 'new posts' button that displays them for the whole Tech section. I'm really not interested in having to go through pages of new posts from all the other sections as well trying to pick out the Tech posts. As it stands right now I won't be looking at this forum too much anymore.

The new areas are a good idea, but it may upset some people until they except the change, this setup is simular to the "XLFORUM" which I am a member of and I can say that it works very well. Here is a link if you want to check it out xlforum.net (big site heaps of members im a "davidcar" on the site)

I agree, I liked the old tech section. Im not particularly interested in wading through half a dozen other tech forums as they arent specific to my vehicle but I looked at quite a few "unrelated" threads how it was laid out previously.

Good example was on outerlimits I used to only read the Daihatsu tech section but once I sold it stopped looking and moved to Toyota. Im sure im not alone in saying that I had picked up a fair bit of info on Daihatsu's and that knowledge is going to waste by not viewing the threads anymore. Another example being my recent thread on my IFS steering issues on the lux, there are many other vehicles with similar suspension/steering setups and theres a fairly good chance people that could have offered some advice didnt see the thread as they don't own Toyotas.

However life will go on, great site either way.

I used to look forward to open up general dicussion and browse thro all the new posts, now there doesn't seem to be much going on, and it is too hard trying to flip through so many different sections.
I am also too nervous to post because you can be damn sure I will end up posting in the wrong section and be 'moved'.

Dont be afraid to post mate, generally if it is deemed in the wrong place and moved a link is left so you will still find it ;)

The 'New Posts' button is the first one I hit when I log on. Makes it easy to scan through everything.

The only time I go into a specific section is when I'm looking for something in particular.

I don't think having extra sections makes any difference.

Its been a few months now, are more threads being made in the tech section now that its been split up? I dont think ive clicked any of the non Toyota tech sections since it started which kinda sucks as i probably won't be learning too many new facts about other makes now!
