I have a 1985 62 series landcruiser with the 3F petrol in it. Lately it has gotten very hard to start and then it runs like an absolute dog until it warms all the way up. Its almost as if it is missing very badly until it warms up.

It has extractors so there is no hot air re-circ pipe on it any more and the toyota dealer apparently plugged some vac hoses when it was running rough last time (before i bought it).

Any one have any idea on how to tune the thing or maybe where i can get a diagram and instructions on how to tune it??????

If anyone has any ideas please reply, and go into as much detail as you would like as i will try anything at the moment!!!

Are you using the choke with a couple of pumps on the pedal to start it?
Check the plugs and point for spark.
Check the fuel window on the carb, should be half full all the time.
It could also need a valve adjustment or it could have a vacuum leak and as the engine warms it expands and closes a leak.
Spraying some water around the air intakes can reveal a leak(it will want to stall)

Try buying a $30 Gregorys manual. It has a trouble shooting and tune up guide.

Maybe it's time to junk the 3f and put that Ford V8 in you were talkin about! Good luck mate, those things have a maze of vac lines.

Really! Mine had one to the distributor, one for the vacuum shift solenoids and a few that went to the aircon fast idle solenoid and it was an 88 model.
