Hi,
Just curious what the changes were in the standard 1HZ 100s .

the first models went from 1998 to Sept 2002

and the second was 2003 to current.

other than a new dash in the second release were there really any other changes that would sway someone to go for a later one over the older models?
I am assuming it was just a cosmetic thing.

Any info would be appreciated

thanks Alan

The 1HZ received EGR, but apart from cosmetics (grille, lights, dash, etc) I don't believe there was any mechanical "upgrades".

I am not up to speed with EGR, What value does it bring to the car if any other than a tighter emission control?

EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation, absolutely no benefit to the engine, sometimes they are known to "fail" and block. ;)

Imagine if you had to live your life with part of your intake air supplied from your exhaust :D

thanks for that. currently looking at getting rid of the petrol 80 and getting into a early 100s standard

Its illegal to change the EGR system right???

E.g. if i change the plumbing a bit so the EGR no longer feeds into the inlet manifold and straight to the atmosphere or exhaust...

if it "blocks, or becomes blocked" will it have a negative effect on the rest of the EGR system, or can it be "blocked" without bad things happening to achieve whats written below

Theroetically cleaner air means more performance and increased engine life?

I believe it's against the law to tamper with any emission control device.
