Hey all!

A good mate of mine has just purchased a dual cab, diesel SR5 in white.

And I'm having a bit of trouble trying to convince him to get some 16" or 17" alloys, with some chunky mud terrain tyres, or at least some all terrains fitted to the thing...

He seems to have his heart set on some 20", or 22" bling blings!

So I was looking for some nice examples with some aftermarket wheels and tyres.
Or even just with the stock wheels and bigger tyres....

Photos and links will be greatly appreciated guys!:)

Thanks in advance.
Ross

Hey Twisty, do you reckon the long travel suspension kits made by Camburg in the states for their new Taco's would suit our new Luxi's here?

Camburg Engineering Inc. - Toyota Tacoma - Tacoma suspension - tacoma shocks - Donahoe shocks - swayaway shocks (http://www.camburg.com/tacomaP05.html)

They also have long travel kits for them.

As far as I know the front suspension setup on the Taco's and the FJ Cruiser should all be the same. that is Prado Based. so mods for those trucks should theoretically fit the lux's?

Twisty
01-07-2007, 11:08 AM
Yeah, as you said they all have the same front suspension set up....so I cant see why it wouldn't fit. I guess they only thing that might be different is the steering wheel being on opposite sides.

On the Yank websites, they got so many different suspension options that should fit the new hilux's, and Im so surprised that nobody here is either importing them in or making similar items for us.

There could be a huge money maker if we had long travel suspension kits for the luxies, aswell as 3 or 4" coil overs. what you reckon?

Would totaly transform the 4x4 ing scene here if you could show that the new hiluxs with these kits noit only look the goods but perform well offroad too.

Just gotta sit back and wait and hope I guess. :(

Is'nt the limiting factor the angle of the cv's? The first photo above has an 80 series front end in it which got rid of the indipendant front end. I've raised mine another 35mm since the photo above taken at Barrington Top's last Sunday

Yeah the first one had a custom SAS swap done to it. Doug67, may I ask what is the total lift of your hilux? and what brand of suspension it is? also, Ive I may be so rude as to ask what the suspension set you back? you may PM me a reply if you want?

what size tyres do you run? they look like 265's - could a bigger size fit?

Im pretty sure I saw on newhilux.net a luxi with a 2"lift and running 255/85x16 which is 33.3x10x16

The kits from the states keep the angles close to standard in a similiar way to that of the old 4" IFS kits. Obviously they are different suspension styles but the idea is similiar.

Id love one but at the moment the wife is over the present one so itll be a while off LOL

I drove out 3" higher but think it sagged a bit, just got another 35mm the other day by machining another groove in the shock 15mm higher and changing the seat position, gave 35mm. Suspension is Bilstien shocks Lovell springs to the front and Bluemax rear springs modified due to long range fuel tank (extra spring to one side) all done at Climax near Newcastle $2300
Tyres 285/75 r16 33"

If you look at Dan's car above the black one HLX40L he has the diff dropped which keeps th cv's near standard but this is no good for offroad as you can see there's not much ground clearance as you can see, but yeh it looks good.

How big can you just "bolt straight on" to a new triton?

Anyway, I get a Toyota employee discount on the hilux so Id be mad to even consider anything else....that and toyota superior quality and reliability.

got any pics of a triton with big boots?

Hitting yes, fix one by raising 35mm and soon to fix the other by changing to a different offset wheel.

I dropped my diff without losing clearance, the back of the skid plate had to be modified, but it's still at the same height. Same kit is used on the Taco's.

i have to say that the toughest new lux i have seen was the one in the 4wdm mag a lil whil eback. they had one with solid axle front, freaking awesome i reckon. didnt like them at the start, but then i saw the 4wd model, tough, even better with solid axle conversion.lol. if you got a few grand up your sleeve that is

v6XtraHilux
03-07-2007, 01:00 PM
you'd need a few more than a few grand to do that SAS that was featured in the 4WM. The owneer was on OL after he did the swap and reckons he didnt get much change from $16K, and that was without the engineers report!!

Anybody know id any of these kits, including the blue dropped arm kits are legal in QLD??

Its only illegal if you get caught!!!! :P

Nah seriously, I think you can go upto 4" and its still legal. The only reason anything over 2" suspension lift on pre-05 hilux's is illegal or needs engineering is because the supension design doesnt allow you to go any higher without serious modifications, like the drop brackets and the like that NEED engineering because of changes to the suspension geometary.

I think you CAN go upto 4" suspension lift legally, like cruisers and patrols if the suspension design allows you to.

Correct me if Im wrong anybody.

regardless, the HCC kits look awesome.

P.S. Maybe this thread should be renamed the new model hilux thread?
