The 470 has a 2uz in it. It would go fine some prefer Chevs and Holden V8s for a Cruiser. The 1uz would push it along no worries but they dont have the same low down torque as the larger motors. However add a s/c or turbos to the 1uz and its an entirely different playing field.

Check out Lexus-Toyota V8 Performance Forum (http://www.lextreme.com) you will find everythingyou want to know about the motors and conversions there.

If ya gunna go the Gen 4, why not go all out and get a LS7 out of the C6 Corvette :)

Throw a turbo at the 1FZ-FE instant 350-400 rwkw.

Now ya talkin, an intercooled turbo kit or supercharged kit for a 1FZ-FE has some staggerring results, especially if its matched with aftermarket injectors and programmable ECU!

GM recently released th LSX (similar to LS1,2,7) bowtie block v8 is good for 2500 hp. can be stroked out approx 7.9 litres. Can use heads, cam and other bits form current range of LS motors as well. According to their website it's not supposed to cost much.

Would a 2uz bolt up to the auto in a 97?
What about engine mounts ?
Radiator clearance?

Seems like such a good swap, but I cant find much info.

There is no way Id swap in a 2uz Id s/c the motor in there first. The 2uz makes less power and and just pips the 1uz for torque. IMO they are a crap motor to be putting in for a conversion. If you just want the V8 note then go for it but if you want an improvement I wouldnt bother.

Had a bloke I know put a 1uzfe with two wrx turbos into a 60 series cruiser and it went like a rocket. Just a little thirsty though!

Before I settled on a diesel, at one stage I was investigating putting a 265 Hemi Valiant motor in a 'cruiser. I know that ARB make conversion kits for them - seems like it would be a good option - not the outright power of any of the big V8s being mentioned, but a nice, reliable, long-stroke torquey motor that wouldn't require mods to your suspension or brakes, and that runs particularly well on gas.

Basically, my motor's a little tired.
I am considering what to do with it.
The tranny feels good and the drivelines fine, so I thought about a 2uz. As theyre cheap! But only if it'd slot in well.
I am yet to find out if a diesel would go straight in,easily, or maybe a second hand engine..( I live along way from a good mechanic,so whatever I do, I have to do myself.Hence the "easy" bit!)

find another 1fzfe, or figure out why it feels tired. they generally last forever and a day

thats the same reason i'm dropping a crossflow in mine. long stroke 6, common as pies at the footy... i can replace the whole engine for what a starter motor costs on a 2F. torquier down low than most small blocks, easy to convert and reliable on gas. plus they take to LPG and a small boost turbo liek a dog to a leg.

I think it may have been sunk at one stage. It has valve stem seal issues as well ($1500 to replace them alone). And its seeping coolant from the back of the head.
But these engines are a good donk . Just mine wasnt serviced.Lucky me to get it!!

I guess the cheapest way would be to get another one.Just dont want to buy another pack of problems. I live very remote, so its hard to check things out properly.

pay the dosh to get it both the cooling system and the cylinders pressure tested before you buy the motor.

or get a reco head and do the headgasket (could work out cheaper than getting all those valve stem seals done?)
