Just wondering what sort of mileage you are getting out of yours?
I was only getting 300 km per 40 L then when my clutch died and was adjusted im now getting about 350 km per 40 L.
Still i think i should be getting better for only a 1.6L.
Cheers :D

I would've normally expected you to get in the vicinity of 12l/100km or 8k/l or better, but probly not more than 10, so your's isn't too far off 13.3l/100km or 7.5k/l.
But there are a few things that could be impacting. What size tyres are you running, and are you reading your km travelled accurately. If the tyres are oversize, you'll be showing less km than actually travelled on the odometer, and it can be inaccurate to start with, by up to 10%! That's a big difrence when you are looking at caculating fuel economy!! And then there's things like lifts and body lifts, they can reduce fuel economy without you realising, as can adding weight like LR fuel tanks, bull bars, drawer systems, roof racks and load, even just the normal tool box in the back can make a difference. The smaller the car, the bigger the difference for smaller weights!! With the Feroza, even just carrying one person plus the driver makes the difference between good fuel economy and check for holes in the fuel tank!!
So give us a big more detail on the tyres (specifically size) and other mods done to the car. Tell us where you are getting your 'distance travelled' from, and if it's not your GPS have you done anything to verify the accuracy of the meter? What sort of driving and what sort of terrian is it that you are getting that fuel economy over, ie hilly stuff will make the engine work harder than flat terrain,we all know that, but did you realise that NOT revving the 1.6l 16 valve engine into its torque band will also mean poor fuel economy??! What revs do you drive at, ie peak revs before changing up, and how low do you let them go before changing down? What gear are you driving around town in, and what are the revs at that speed? What about on a trip, do you stay in 5th and let it bleed off speed with the inclines or do you stir it along to keep the revs up and in the torque band?
Wait to hear more from you, salty!
Cheers

wow!
a lot of info to take in there.
a dont know the size of the tyres but its dark and cold outside but they would probaly be 28', 29'
not very big
they are standard highway tyres on csa rims
the only mod at the moment would be my bullbar and my stock leaf springs which are going straight across at the moment :( no flex at all
really want to get the full sports exhaust from MRT rally for the roza when i have the $$$
most driving is between home - tafe - beach - home
most of the way just 60 kmph with about 2 km on highway at 100.
most of the way would be flat with only minor hills involved
usually am driving in between 2000-3.500 rpm, change up at 3.5 and change down at 2, she seems the drive along quite nicely at 2, anything below that she struggles
usually only myself in the car but sometimes full of surfing and kiteing gear which can weigh her down
hmmmm
im actually driving the brisbane tomoz with the GPS so i could test it then
maybe this info will help!! :D:D
cheers

We get 10/l per 100km out of ours, seems to be pretty much the same on the highway (but that is at 110km/h)
Id be suss on your o2 sensor on your exhaust manifold. might not be reading correctly. outerlimits forum has a section on daihatsu and someone posted a great link on testing them

The other thing to try might be glueing a drawing pin (thumb tack) to the accelerator pedal and only drive in bare feet...... Might be a change in style is needed ! LOL

After looking at your reply salty, the most likely thing that could be causing any misreading is the odo or speedo, which you said you could check against the GPS on the trip to Bris, how did that go? Still be interested to know the size & make of tyres rims etc. The rev range you are using doesn't look too bad, albeit just a little low, there is a fair bit left above that 3500 if you need it. They don't really like being treated gently! (But don't overdo it!)
So if it's not the odo, then it's either your driving itself, or summat else like cracked exhaust manifold or exhaust somewhere, quite common on these and can be a real waste of fuel (check the cat converter too!) or like whyallacookies suggests, the O2 sensor or some other mechanical issue. Had it serviced/tuned lately? It is amazing what a service and tune-up can do!!? Even just getting the plugs, leads, coils, etc up to speed can make a BiiiiG difference in fuel economy!!
Hope you sort it eventually!

just drove from Gold Coast to Home
GPS said 200km exactly, followed the route it said to go without stopping anywhere and the odometer said 203.4km
only a tad out, the speed was also out a bit sometimes

Used to have an '89 Feroza with 31" muds, body and suspension lift, steel bullbar, and used to get 11 litres per 100 ie 44 litres per 400 km. I think you have a problem somewhere. As someone else here stated, Feroza's 16 valve loves to rev, don't let the revs sit too low, they come on band at about 3500rpm, also tuning and premium fuel helps heaps, I was getting 1 litre p/100 km better on premium. A thorough inspection by someone who knows what they're on about is what you need.

I have a 97 and I get a tad under 9 litres per 100 usually. it can be very thirsty in the city though. upto 12.5 litres I reckon. Just had gearbox bearings go at 180,000. But On the highway it revs at 3900 @ 110 so I suspect my consumption might be high-ish 'cause of heaps of highway.
Hi,
I get 500km out of my 50 litre tank. I was getting less before I changed my oxygen sensor so it's worth checking if thats your problem. I also put in a snorkel at the same time I changed the O2 sensor so I guess that helps with fuel economy aswell.

After reading this thread with interest, I noticed no one has mentioned which models their Frozas' are; ie skinnys or widetrack.
Salty obviously has a widetrack (avatar) but does the fuel consumption vary between models?
saltyqld: My daughter had an SXP and was getting less than 400km per 53 litres (approx). She started putting premium fuel in and the consumption changed to about 465km for the same amount of fuel.
That was until she rolled it last year. :(
