Hi all - if there has been other topics please redirect me!

I have spent the good part of the day and have been unsuccesful in putting maps on my Magellan Meridan Gold GPS using a 32mb SD Card.

The facts:

1. Downloaded the VIC TOPO Torrent (took 2 night but hey it was big)
2. Played around with oziExplorer and Ican see them on the computer.
3. I thought I could just copy them straight on the USB card and plug it into the GPS but nothing!

HELP HELP HELP - this is frustrating.

How can I get these TOPO maps onto my GPS - is there anyone who could PLEASE provide some instructions - much appreciated.

Thankyou in advance

I've got some instruction for a Meridien I can email you. I think it should be the same process. Haven't done it for a couple of years though.

I could be wrong but I don't think the Ozi Explorer file format is compatible with the Magellans - I just use Discover Aus on my Meridian.

Ozi Explorer on the PDA - when I get around to it.

Where might I get a copy of Discover Aus - and this program allows me to put topo maps onto my GPS?

You definitely can not use the raster type maps used by OziExplorer on a Merri-Gold. You'll have to fork out the $300+ for DiscoverAus. Don't think it can be copied and put on another GPS either.

Try Next Destination in WA - I'm not sure if you can back-up Discover Aus - I know the SD card variety can't be backed up.

Still doesn't allow topo maps to be put on your GPS but it is a pretty good program with a lot of tracks on it. You can use it as your base map with all the detail. Check out the blurb on the web site.

Ah, its all making sense now.
So, if I have a similar GPS (Meridian Colour)... and i have the Vic maps on Ozi Explorer, how do i hook up the gps to the PC?
I have the cables to connect it, but what else?

thanks

Hi Maphew.
There is more to it . Have a look in this forum. .:GPSAustralia:. (http://www.gpsaustralia.net/) It will explain all. Here is the correct method for loading DAST onto your SDcard DiscoverAus FAQ (http://www.gpsoz.com.au/magellan/dast_faq.htm)
You will need a 256mb card to fit all of Aus and Tas on it. Only thing is I am not sure if the Gold will accept a 256 mb SD card. If not, fit them to 2 x 128 cards. Les
