I was just wondering if anyone has tried this. A guy i know has done a few times on hills that are slippery and he didnt want to reverse down.
ill try to explain it best i can,
After realizing he wont make it up, he stalls the engine and pulls on the handbrake, with the engine off and the car in gear, he quickly pushes in the clutch, releasing the front wheels to spin (the back wheels are still locked with the handbrake), he says its "grit your teeth and hope for the best" but the front of the car spins around 180 degrees in one car length and he is now able to drive forward down the hill.
I dont think ill try it, just wondering if anyone else has
your mate must have some seriously big balls, i certainately wouldnt try it, sounds like a great way to roll your truck several times ;D ;D ;D
if someone does give it a shot, make sure theres someone else there ith a camera rolling...

yeah, it depends, if u guys are doing it when your hunting (like in the Paddock) yeah it will work (but in a 4wd with a low center of gravity i.e. no lift) , done it a few times, but I wouldn’t do it on the trail cos of the ruts and minimal space etc etc etc

Lets see, I put it on two wheels to see how long I could balance it there, but only managed a few seconds.
I drove over the top of a drainage trench 2 meters wide x 1 meter deep, at 70 kmh. It was full of water and I wanted to see if I could aquaplane over the top of it, and I did.
I drove for 100km with no water in the radiator, and 10L of oil in the sump, and did no damage.
Driven through a creek with water 1 ft over the bonnet with a under bonnet snorkel made from a toilet roll core a plastic bag and 100 mph tape. I made it with no damage, exept the toliet roll core got wet and I couldn't roll the loo paper back on.
Winched 12 4b's up a steep hill in the pouring rain at 12 pm one night, using a hand winch with a single line pull, 3 months after having my first heart attack at age 26. Lost the winch handle and was in bed by 2 am.
These are all true stories I swear.
if all that's true, good effort mudlux

Yeh nothing much scares him, used to be dirt-track motorbike racer, the ones with no brakes. That would be scary enough
and he clearly doesnt care about his car, either that or he's cashed up

Don't try it in a Landie/Rangie/older Toyo etc. They have transmission brakes.

thanks for the hot tip. ill tell duck
Well i think Dirty can answer that.......
What happens when the car goes sideways on a hill???
He fall over...
I would not attempt that EVER....
that is just CRaZy......
Lets get Tom to try it........
And yes. Wont work on a Rover with a Transmission, Tailshaft handbrake......
OK for the sake of Science as Myth busters cant afford to come over....
Someone supply me a 2wd or 4wd with rear handbrake and crap tyres and lets use........ Gembrook as its slippery...
I'll attempt to drive up then when it slips i'll stall it witht he hand brake on and try to get the front to come around....
When it rolls i'll yell "Keep ya arms in" and reach for the seatbelt i'm not wearing and as it rolls i'll brace myself to hit my head and get thrown out the window.....
Then you can call the air ambulance to rescue me.
Sounds Simple.....
