Cheers guys, unfortunatly i did not have the movie camera with me, ill make sure i bring it next time. This was the first trip up the beah in my new truck, however i live 15 mins from north shore now at noosa so i guess i will see the beach more often than when i was located at brisbane, couldn't imagine a better truck to do it in. Still, its at the point of requiring a restore of the inside and a few spots on the body so keep a look out at the build up section within the next few months.
Crawla, not to sure about the suspension though as i just bought the truck.I assume it would of been some sort of a kit straight of the shelf.

Just something that may help you out that I did to my 40 the other day which I will pass onto my fellow 40 fella. Mate this shit is amazing. I have known and used lanotec for a while now but have never really got under the old girl and given the undercarriage a real soaking. I've just sprayed this and that with the stuff over the years but thought because I live only minutes from the beach it's time to get serious and really soak the undercarriage to prevent problems with corrosion down the track. I don't drive in salt water but I do hit the sand like in your pics.
Well the other day I went out and bought an absolute truck load of the general purpose lanotec........cans, bottles and spray bottles.....bwa hahahaha, the blokes thought I was gonna lube up a bulk carrier on the high sees.
I spent hours under there over 2 days, I just coated and re coated and re coated. Filled the chassis rails up with the stuff then filled em up some more.
All under the guards, diffs, springpacks .....anything bar the brakes got multiple soakings.......well you wanna see the old bus, when the stuff soaks in (which I had no idea) it makes your entire undercarriage look like its rolled off the production line!!!
The mate couldn't believe his eyes. She is gonna be parked up for a while so by the time she is used again the stuff would have soaked in and will be dry....which it does, dries eventually and nothing will stick to it.
But.......I found out from a brochure I picked up the other day that the stuff I bought was only general purpose lanotec, you can buy a heavy duty lanotec which is made for soaking your undercarriage in the stuff.....also good for wire ropes, chains, battery terminals etc. So I am off to buy some heavy duty lanotec to give her another soaking soon!!!
With the springpacks I just got the high lift and jacked her up so the springpack leaves would part and they then got a soaking.
So now she has been submerged in the stuff the old girl is now protected for the beach and off roading with an undercarriage that looks brand new.....diffs, steering, chassis, everything!
Don't tell me....you've done it, ah well.......good for anyone that may not have known:D
Cheers.

Crawla, yeah i have heard about that stuff and am concidering it, however the old beast has a bit of rust in the front floor pan near the seats and some minor surface rust under the rear tub so i will get all that sorted out first.
As for stopping the rust their is another realy good way to do it which should last at leat a few years, i did it on my last truck and it worked well. Their is a paint i got from a mate which builds busses and heavy truck trailers ect. I cant recall the name, but what it is is basically a mix of black thick two pack and tar based paint. This stuf can go on a couple of mill thick if ya want and it stops any chance of getting rust in the floor pan or chassy.
The only downfall of using the stuff is that if you do not prep the area to be painted properly first, the rust will eat from the inside and you will not know untill ya rail falls in half or a foot goes through the floor pan.
The big bonus of using this stuff is that you reduce road noise, which as you would know, their is quite a bit in these old girls and it drys as hard as steal, which combats the paint chipping when out the bush on the rocky stuff.
Within 6 months ill be stripping the worle bottom of the truck back priming the whole lot and then will prob coast it in the stuff a few mills thick, good luck rusting after that.
Cheers for the tip though, sonds like the truck is lucky to have ya:D

Hey crawla, you might know about this. I have heard that the gear box and transfer has a seal between the two and when the seal goes the oil runs into the box and emptys the transfer? is their such a trick as hooking a hose up to the two boxes as to make sure they both stay full of lub "as it circulates between the two.

yeah an ex of mine had a brother who ran a smash repair shop. He gave me this stuff to paint on the jet ski trailer that was like bloody glue, said it would last for years aswell but did not have the tar base. It was a clear browny colour. Might ask around about the stuff your talkin about if I ever decide to strip parts of her right back (when we get our place eventually with a big shed) She is in good nick the old girl from the old fella who owned her previously, he had owned shorties before and had already treated where they usually rust out (this is my second too) Old bastard even drilled holes in the double skinned panels on the hard top and filled em up with oil!
Thing with the lanotec I thought is it will soak in to places you will never get a brush. Mrs says the same thing about it being lucky.....says I need therapy too:D:D
Will keep an eye on ya thread for those pics....cheers

Here are some more shots of the 40 up rainbow beach from the weekend just gone.
We got stuck with the tide at 3.00pm sat evening and decided to get as close to the beach crossing as we could bossibly go "light house side o collored sands". Pulled up for 5 hours and had a fish "with great success", when it started getting dark we got a fire going as we new a long wait was still ahead and gutted the fish we had caught, slapped them on the hot coles and had a cold one:drink: . It doesnt get any better than that.
Allso, for the boys which are going up their next weekend you may get lucky, on dusk we were privelaged enough have a showing of some dolphins and a pod of whales in the cove. And the other winnier of the evening was that we did not see another person for the whole time we waited for the tide to drop.
Also found out that the beast has enough power to plow from the barge at noosa to rainbow beah in two wheel drive, who needs all four LOL.
Any way here are some pics.

Hey mate,
Nice Looking 40!
I had the same problem you mentioned with the Gearbox / Transfer in my 60 Series.
They Hooked a Hose up (which i could get Pics of ) that runs from the gearbox back to the transfer case which i think is how they solved the issue after replacing the seal.

I am thinking of doing a spring over conversion on the 40, has anyone done this or know of it being done, and is it legal?
See below link for my inspiration..
Spring Over Conversion (http://medusa.ih8mud.com/cruiser/Springover.html)
What yas think?
As a bonus i found a site with some seriouse 40 flex at a bonus of te SOC, have a look.

Seems to be the cheapest way to get great articulation, i just have to find out if it is legal in QLD now as i have some bad luck when it comes to modding 4x4's.
Hate to be the bringer of bad news, but in QLD a springover is a big fat no no. It speciffically states it in vehicle modification rules. (I did have a copy of that somewhere...)
Anyway, great looking rig. How's it handle on the blacktop with the CIG gas locker?
VANDETTA82
06-07-2007, 08:50 AM
Bugga, looks like the spring over idea is a no go then :( , dont want to get done again so will play it safe ay.
The locker is pretty good (she goes forward reverse turns and stops), the shorty is def not a long distance vehicle from the get go anyway, but i only drive for a few mins to get to the beach and then the handaling comes into its own. I recon it is one of the best lockers available if you are putting a big strain on it "beefed up V8" but am thinking of locating it to the front, that is if the diffs can be switched from front to back, not sure?.:D
Anyway thanks for the replys.
