we had some mahindras at a mine I worked at. they all died faster than michael jackson would at a KKK grand rally. and they were shift bosses only vehicles not for the peasants or they probably would have died even quicker. That was quite a few yrs ago so maybe they are better now. But personally I will stick with tojo.

apparently their quality has improved considerably since the ones that came out in the 1990s
they build for renault now as well

There was a story on our local news about them the other night....they tested them on some fire trails out around Mittagong apparently. This article has a little bit of info about it. http://www.theage.com.au/news/business/mahindra-to-test-the-water-with-indianbuilt-ute/2007/06/05/1180809518527.html

Apparently it has a spacious cab, a 2.5l turbo diesel engine and the "biggest capacity utility tray available".

Yep I second that.

I am suprised Holden aint rebadging them, like they do with every other cheap and nasty car. ie the daewoo's they rebadged.

I've never seen a Tata without at least one piece of trim missing or hanging off...

Pat did a test on a tata in the mag, and he said that he went into it with an open mind ready to impressed by at least something in terms of value for money - and he said that it sucked OUTRIGHT!!

He gave that Tata a real bad review - maybe they are making things better these days - but it was only a couple of years ago that they were still basing the diesel motors on a late 80's peugeot motor - real old technology and very poorly replicated

Saw one of those going down the road the other day - it was blowing more black smoke than a clagged out Camira.

24K? Go to the ex Govt. auctions - you can get a decent brand for less than that for a single cab, and not much more than a dual cab. 40-60K on the clock.

They've been reviewed somewhere or other. Basically, as has been said, for the price, they may be someone's answer, but otherwise, better value for the same money, or less money, from a 2nd hand better quality vehicle, . . . like a Lada Niva.

maybe 25K now, but worth zip next year.

I don't mind the look of the Mahindra. I saw a few in South Africa last year. No about to go and buy one though. Like others have said, for 25K get a ex Govt. Hilux/Courier.

I'm sure if Holden could build something better than Daewoo, they would. As yet they haven't!

A bit of trivia re Indian cars, they make the roof higher for the wearing of turbans...might be an advantage for Akubra's too? :)

The diesel motor was a mecedes benz made under licence. Not sure if it still is the same motor though.
