Hey all,
Just wanting to put MTR's on my 2002 Dual Cab HILUX. Want to know whats the max size I can put on without it scraping the mud guards/side wall etc
According to the local 4WD shop, I cannot put anything bigger than what I've got on which is 245/70/R16.
I do NOT have any lift or any other mods.
thanks :)

What type of wheel are you using? Offset will help determine max size.

err.. I dont know exactly what you mean
I use sunraisa rims R16's
Tyres are currently Goodyear Wrangler ATR's
is this what you are asking mate?

Hey Zombrax,
the reason I asked for offset is if you want to go bigger, then wheel offset will help. eg. genarally speaking negative offset will bring the wheel outwards and more chance of rubbing on say your front mudflap area.
. positive offset goes inward and more chance of rubbing inner guard. Offset should be punched in back of rim.
But generally two tyres that should fit are 245/75/16 or for fatter look 255/70/16.
hope this helps,
cheers

if you tweak your standard torsion a tad, you'd be able to get away with 265/70x16's.
or 31/10.5x15's if you had 15 inch wheels.
other than that you gotta lift it mate

Tweaking the torsion bars may help onroad but changes nothing offroad

265/75/16 on a 16 x 8 with zero offset will fit with no rubbing (remove front mudflaps) equivilent to a 32x10.5x15 in size. Also depends on tyre and make. For some reason a A/T is taller than a muddie of the same make and size. Go to the Mickey thompson or the BFG websites and compare all their tyres in the different sizes. They are all measured in MM, take notice the difference is sizes. You might get a muddie to fit without removal of your mudflaps.
Just some thought.

Tweakin the torsions may not help much offroad - having IFS dont help you much anyway, but tweakin the front allows taller rubber to be fitted, thus enabling the diff to sit higher off the ground.
Removing the front sway bar helps offroad once the torsions have been tweaked.
And as 02-SR5 said 265/75x16 do fit, but he forgot to mention that you need a suspension lift. 1.5=2"

I fit 31inch mtr's on my 02 dual cab but they scrubbed a bit on full lock on the mud flaps. Solution = wind the torsion bars up an inch. All good now!
I wouldnt even consider removing the front mud flaps, thats if you value your lux's paint work at all. Took them off on my feroza and even with side steps it was ratshit after a few trips away. Stone chips galore. Mud flaps are a good thing!
