Hi Boy's
Headed down to the local exhaust place yesterday, after a price on a set of snakes for the old 80 series. He said that "it will make a noticeable difference to the big girl" as he flipped through the catalogue and then stated that "there a bit pricey". Fitted with a better flowing muffler at around $150 the total came to $945.00.... F@$K ME was the reply.
Then he went on how they go from 3 into 2 into 1 or something like that. I was still getting over the $950 price tag. I then stated that I will have to try and get it past the COOK.
Does the price sound right or is he just ripping me???
Any thoughts will be grate . Cheers in advance...
PS The brand of muffler was walker, not sure on snakes..

sounds about right for a full system, extractors normally start around 300/400 hundered anyway. but for that price, I reckon is could be stainless.

My extractors and 2 1/4" system set me back $1500:crazy:
It did make a good difference to torque and driveability though...:thumb:

Last week i was quoted 750 for HiTech headers and a lukey strait thru muffer, fitted up with new mounts to the existing 2 1/2 system on my TD42 GQ coil cab. What brand of headers were they? Try annother shop and take the quote back to the other bloke if its the same gear.
That sounds pretty cheap for the muffler too so $800 bucks for extractors, tell him hes dreamin.
Cheers

I also have a 1hz in my troopy and priced some myself just last week at genie exhaust in myaree. $700 for the extractors, and they said to allow another $500 for the rest of the system, in 2.5" pipe.

The extractors sound pricey.... The performance level of the 1HZ doesn't justify a great outlay on them as a cheap set will give just as much benefit..
Do some shopping around and see how you go.. I believe you can save some $$ and still get the same benefit...
From what I have seen on mates cars it will be worth the effort though.
If you have the standard muffler on then give it the arse to start with and you will notice a big difference without even going to the extractors...
2 1/2" system with a sports muffler.... probably more like $300 total with almost the same amount of benefit

That is a lot of money dude, but if it is the best price you can get then it's the best price you can get. never the less, shop around a bit.

Extractors are very expensive, particluarly if you want well made ones that are going to withstand the rigours of time on a 4WD, i.e. vibrations, cold dunkings, etc. Ensure they also refit the flex coupling to the system.
They are also very expensive when compared on a $ per kW basis to a turbo system!!!

My boss got pacmakers and a 2.5 mandrel bent system including muffler for his 100 series diesel, it set him back around $1200 from memory the extractors were about $900 of that. The difference in performance and fuel economy was very good also
www.liverpoolexhaust.com.au/livoexh/hurricane_headers.htm this mob quoted me yesterday 8/6/07 $ 363 including GST for a set of mandrel bent extractors for a 1992 80 series 1HZ and another $33 for freight to Qld.

H M Extractors $475.00
2.5" mild steel system with flexible joint $561.00
I already had an old set of Perry 3-2-1 Extractors fitted so just replaced the exhaust system.
Putting expensive systems on 1HZ's is like putting Nikes on a fat bloke, looks the part but no real difference in performance

is it worth doing at all then?

Can't say, mine had the extractors on it when i got it 4 years ago, and replacing the old 2.5" with the new one has made no difference at all except to the note

The poorer the design of the manifold, the greater the benefit of fitting extractors.

yep, but make sure the old girl can breath, put a snorkel on first, as you need to get air in quickly, if you want to remove the gases quicker.
Its the law of physics. if you try & remove somthing with out replacing it, you will create a vacum. This being impossible on the old 1hz, means that no matter how good an exhaust system you put on to improve performance (remove gases quicker, to make space for more fuel/air mix) if you cant get the air in, the gases are just as slow to leave. Therefore it seems about the same as before.

The 75 series had a different camshaft (built for work) to the 80/100 1HZ's, this might be one reason why the 75 dosn't benefit from extractors as weel as the wagons
ive read that pacemakers are designed more for top end and Genie more for low down power. does that make sense or just marketing PR?http://www.exploroz.com/Forum/Archiv...ForumQID=23189

I got a set of extractors, 'sports muffler' and 2.5 inch system for just over $800 on my 75 cruiser about a year back. I also have a snorkel.
I did notice an improvement in the useable rev range. Low down is just the same but between about 2-3500 is much better.
It seems that rather than revving just to get rid of exhaust gasses you actually get power out of it.
Much nicer exhaust note too!

I put a 3" mandrel bent mild steel thru system with Pacemakers on my 80. Beautiful workmanship, one-off, angry note, and completely tucked up out of the way.
But for $2500 it wasn't really worth it.
Yes it revved a lot freeer. And the old 1hz was a lot happier.
Not sure if it was my driving or the age of my 1HZ, but have had a ton of problems with the Pacemakers cracking. They go 6-2 near the original flex joint, then 2-1 and flex where the first muffler was. And at 400RPM she flaps around a bit.
But I've got a mate with a Troopy who's fitted a 2.5" system and modified the intake side of things and peared some weight off (old exhaust, tow bar etc) and his fuel economy and power is getting better and better. He's loving it.

I got extractors and a 2.5 inch sports exhaust put on my 75 ute.Whole lot was about 1200. You can definately tell the difference in power dont have to rev right out anymore to get up to speed(but i do cos i like the noise:truck: )
