you could use both but it would depend how it is wired...

do you current have the batteries linked in series or in parallel?

what you are saying is correct 24 to start then 12 like a Jackaroo T/D 2000 onwards twin batteries to start.:truck:

Any winch would do the job (9000lb upwards for a cruiser.. if you need some serious pulling power double the line back to the car through a winch block)...

if it is a 12V winch (which is what I would assume you will end up with) then simply wire the power leads to the terminals of the battery on the passenger side... This battery is our starter batt on 12V and I would assume for simplicity during factory production even though you have 24V starting it would then revert back to a 12V draw from the passenger side battery which means that the alternator gives that battery first crack at recharging...

Wire the power for the winch directly to the battery terminals on that single battery.... if you wire one to the positive of one battery and the other to the negative of the second battery you will be putting 24V through the winch as your batts will be wired in series to double the voltage up.

This is just what I would expect the set up to be and I will be surprised if it is anything different but before you wire a $1000 winch up and give it a hit have it checked by a auto electrician.
