Hi all
Would you buy an ex ARB demo rig? One has come up and it is PACKED full of goodies but it has done over 120k (its a TD Hilux). Would this have been well and truely tested?

i'd buy it. yes they do get used but usually it will be not particularly hard stuff as they are also the daily driver of the managers. They will do the ocasional weekend camping trip and a few marketing type trips as well. Servicing is usually very good. Which ARB store is it from?

yeh if it was at a great price sacrifice i would, usually serviced very well, just remember accesories don't add much resale value at all.

im with grimbo, is buy it you can presume that its got more goodies on it that most of us ever will. Also can presume that they have been serviced regularly. but just check it out carefully

It's on it's second owner (who has only put 20k on it and kept up the servicing) but it's $30,000ono. Which I think is over priced with all the fruit. I am looking at another TD Hilux 03 that has 75k on the clock (plain jane) for $29,500. Which would be the better buy?

If both vehicles are similar dollars, 1 is 40k km less, other has everything.
... do you want all the goodies if not get the low km
... how much would it cost to get the goodie basket for the low km bus and would u be able to finance the goodie basket
... I havnt worked on a newish lux so I only know what forumites have said about them but...IMO the extra 40k on the clock should mean nothing to a TD motor (i thing if you ever do enough km in it, should be for another 300+km to need a rebuild then it might even be cheaper that the above goodie basket)
if it had done close to 200k then I would look closely at the low km bus and buy a goodie basket for it but as for the arb truck if it is a good truck id go for it.

how about spelling out all the info on the rig.
What year is it, how many kms etc
So at least we can compare the two properly to give some sort of informed answer
toy yoda

If you think that $30k is overpriced for 120k and a goodie basket then i think 29,500 is over priced for a pov pack even with lower km, IMO anyway

good call grimbo ...
...what s in the goodie basket!!
Coupland
06-06-2007, 11:53 AM
The goodie basket has....
Bull bar, side steps, tow bar, back step, slider drawers, canopy, offroad tyres and rims, LR tank, diff locks front and rear, roof rack, spotties, ARB suspension, alarm, overhead console and dual batts..

I know that extra dont necc increase value of vehicle ...i dont think that there is enough of a km difference to be an issue both would be well maintained vehicle (the low km fisheries may have done more highway miles but also more low range who really knows)
Do you require all of the extra (ie would you buy them for another rig that doesn't have them. As you said you pay heaps over there, IMO i would buy the arb truck (providing you actually want the goodie basket) as I said if the truck km's were closer to 200k id thing different but generally 120k in a TD is nothing
grimbo
06-06-2007, 12:37 PM
for the $500 pice difference and 50 000km difference and 1 year difference I'd still go the ARB one. The fisheries one has potentially had long exposure to salty conditions. Also on a serviced diesel engine thoe sort of kms are well within its life span.

Cheers guys. Thanks for you imput, I feel better in making a choice now. I was a bit worried about the salt exposure, but it seems it lived in the metro area (service there anyway). The $29,500 was best price for the ex fisheries. I may be able to get the ARB rig down to $27500/28000. So the 125k if it has been serviced is nothing to be concerned about?

I have a 2004 TD Hilux - done near 50,000Km, the old man has a 1981 TD Sahara with 480,000Km on it. The Hilux is not run in yet and the Sahara motor has never been apart. The Sahara is on its second turbo, but for that many Km's and never to be apart - its a credit to the old man AND Toyota. My two cents - 125,000 Km's is nothing if it has been serviced property which I would assume ARB would have done. But yep - I can see your concern with the ARB truck. If I had a fully kitted out company truck with a fuel card I would have given it more than a work over in the scrub on more than a handful of times!!

i would if it hadnt being driven on the beach but if it had no way just look at the fraser dvd
Go the Goodies.
Theres 50'000 K difference, and no guarantee that the vehicle with lower k's will last any longer than the other one. As for the demo model having been used in the bush - isn't that what your buying it for ? - provided it dosn't show obvious signs of abuse (big underbody dings etc.....) it should be fine IMO. Although you will always have the usual wear & tear parts to replace as you go - although buying an ARB demo they should continue to look after you down the track !!!!
The other consideration - ARB are going to keep the Demo in good nick arn't they, no use having a demo that doesn't "shine" for the potential customers.
Fisheries Vehicle, well.. "Its not mine.....I'd never do this in my own vehicle" comes to mind.....

I'd go ARB as I would want all the goodies and I don't reckon the extra kms will mean much if it has been serviced properly. My TD Prado has done 190,000 and apart from a head problem, has been sweet as.

go the arb rig mate,it would cost you a fortune to deck the other one out,the motor is only just starting to get run in

Go the ARB rig. Does the fisheries rig have splitties and chhese cutter tyres on it? Coz theres 12 or 1300 bucks right there. It'd be worth finding out where the vehicle was based; metro, gero, jurian, etc. because i think a metro one would probly be in better nick. Gov vehicles usually get serviced regualarly coz it means a lazy day for the person whos vehicle it is. Your deffinately getting good value for money from the ARB one. Is it from the Osborne park store, because those guys are all mainly interested in touring and dont see much ruff stuff, whereas if it was a demo for one of the authorised dealers it might be a different storey. Long and short of it . . . . . get the one that has twinn lokkas.
Just my 2c

Cheers fellas, I'm off to have a quick look at it this evening. Fingers crossed.
Well, we want the photo's of the new beast once you've laid the deposit.
The only downside to buying one with all the kit - you'll have no excuse to be out in the shed on the weeknights - you'll have nothing to do to it !!!!!

Sorry guys, it was a waste of an evening. The rig had seen better days. The guy hadn't even cleaned the thing. It had clapped out suspension, and whaled all over the road. Little service history. It currently is used as a tradies vehicle.
It wouldn't matter how many goodies this thing had it was not worth the money. I am off to look at the Fisheries vehicle again tomorrow...

Hi toy yoda, just had a quick look on Carsales...the prices are not much cheaper than here. Just more to chose from. How easy would it be to slot in a commodore 5L if I brought a 2.7 petrol?

Coupland,
I would go the lexus swap. There are a bunch of guys on here that have done the conversion. One includes my brother. Toyota should bring them from the factory with this motor option as they are that good.

3.8v6 goes in no probs, but if you were prepared to go a diesel sluglux the 2.7 or 3.4 petrol may suit better than a v8. more economy, & still got lots of go(compared to diesel, not V8)

Good call Coupland. If they didn't care enough to clean it, makes ya suspect it has been flogged.
