You could also look at Io's. Sounds like they'd satisfy your criteria.

The Feroza's have a better power to weight ratio that the Suzuki's, untilyou get up in the later Vitaras, but there isn't quite so much in the way of 'off the shelf' mods available. Sure you'll get a 40mm suspension lift in a comfort or HD version, and a bodylift kit, a long range fuel tank, a/m seats, radios, bullbars, roof racks, etc; but there isn't much more around! If you want to get bigger'n better'n that, you've gotta start getting hands dirty and doing some of the work yourself, or find someone to sponsor you to do the build up! But personally, I think that while the Feroza is the less frequently seen, it is the better base product and able to manage the bigger'n better stuff better than the relatively (by comparison) fragile Suzi, just not seen so often 'cos up until recently, the cost of the Feroza has been higher and it's detered people from using it as a start-up or base vehicle!

That said, there are lots of sweet Suzi's out there that have had a lot of $$$ spent on them to make pretty formidable machines; not so many Feroza's, but what there are tend to be more capable and comfortable! Enjoy the search, and make sure that you prepare a list of all the features that you want, (doesn't hafta be on paper, it can be in your mind!) and then run down the list ticking off what has been met or can be met! You'll have fun either way!

I'll take a Vitara over a Feroza anyday thanks. Lots of options and easier to mod. No more fragile than the Feroza either, they're not that strong. If I wanted to build something to handle the "bigger'n better stuff" as you put it then I'd pick a Suzi any day and I think the Feroza owner in our club would happily agree too. If you're not going to do too much offroad then the Feroza may suit you.

Go the Zook, it is however the only experience I've had with small 4by's except for a WW2 willys jeep... not real good around town and a bit drafty!

CJ would have read very carefully but he knows his Vitaras inside and out and if anyone is going to be able to back up claims of the Vitara being a better 4wd it will be him.
