I just called up NRMA to get a quote on insuring my 4wd and was suprised with what I was told.
Interested to hear if anyone thinks i'm being told lies here.
I'm under 25 so I pay the $450 excess + $400 for being young.
They quoted me $542/annum for comprahensive insurance. This includes accessories such as bullbar, UHF and suspension. They also said that it was standard that you are covered both and on and off the road if you have a 4WD (you didn't get a choice here, if it's classed as a 4WD you get off road insurance).
They also said that it being over 10 years old means I can only get market value which I'm happy with as I paid under market value for it anyway.
I should also note that this is for a '93 single cab Hilux.
Previoulsy when I've looked at insurance I've been looking at well over $1k/annum for it.

NRMA will cover you upto 2" of lift, don't know about the tyres though, they just said that if it is the cause of the accident you might run into problems.
Has anyone got any comments about NRMA as an insurance company?

Your 16, have a modified 4WD and pay $260/year for third party insurance? I think you're dreaming, you pay more for CTP with your rego.
I was looking at around a ludacris $800 for thirdparty on my Lux.

Most over 25's would be paying near 1000 to comprehensive their 100 series. I'd give it back to your parents and add your name as an additional driver. Be a lot cheaper that way.

i had 3rd party insurance on my car when i was at UNI, it was only a ford escort but the value of your car means nothing as its insurance for the car you hit if its your fault, i was only 17 and it cost me $169 a year. Its peace of mind if your car isnt worth much but you want to protect yourself against the damage you might do to someones Rolls Royce should you hit one.
I insure mine throught QBE, i am 27 in october, i own a 98 Disco its insured for market value and i pay $655 a year.
TCIS are the insurance specialists when it comes to 4wd's so if you are having troubles insuring a modded rig contact them. Matt

shite, what do you drive, that seems stupidly high, i would bank the 3k each year and use that to buy a new truck if something happened. Whats your rig valued at?

not yet 24, currently rating 3? i believe. have had no claims or accidents
just have only been driving for 2 1/2 years.
I didnt go out and get a license as soon as i could, i waited till i needed one, and somewhat penalised for that by insurance, but owell.

I have just taken out insurance with RACV on my 99 troopy. I'm 23 and had a lot of trouble getting insurance for it, most insurance mobs knocked me back because I'm under 25 and the car has been modified...
I'm pretty happy with what I got from RACV though. Comprehensive insurance for $906, car valued at $25,000 with 500 excess plus the $450 under 25 excess

I'm with NRMA, Previously before i got my L's / P's he'd been insured with them since new when he bought the 60 ( 1985 ). He previously payed 250.00 / year Full comp ( he's 57 ).
When i was added to the policy it doubled to 500.00 Full Comp.
This is probably due to the fact that he's been with them for so long.
It is also my understanding that my 2" Suspension Lift, Bullbar (Been on the car since purchased) and the Larger Tyres are covered.

They are good as long as you are totally honest. if you need an engineers cert for anything forget and also read the fine print even though it is off road the track must still be marked on a commonly acessable map

Im 28, have a 90 V6 4runner, market value was $6500...So $650 for full comp.
Having spent more then double on mine keeping it on the road:crazy:, i told them i wanted it covered for $9500, they finally agreed and put the premium up by $55, so $705 all up.

tio in N.T. only i think. 25yrs old $600 full comp. car valued at $34000. $100 per windscreen. $300 excess agaist anything. dont know if you have this anywhere else in oz but under a N.T. licence from driveway to a secondry road TIO will pay all medical bills, rehab and time spent off work. works for me.
