Finally got the truck and ordered the Camper trailer now to retire and get out there.
This is a 4.2 TDI with just about everything I need.
Well perhaps not everything!!!!
Thats a nice looking setup, and a trailer coming also. Should help you get where you want to go.

I have ordered a Kimberely
I have been looking and researching this whole rig for years
I hope I have made the right call
There is a lot of kit on the GU including
2 x ARB lockers and 3.74:1 reduction gears
5.5" lift and everything that goes with that
3" stainless exhaust
Adjustable boost controller
Some minor turbo work
So I am hoping it will get me where I want to go

def a well set up and sweet looking truck, i like the idea of the airtank/bar work in the back...
Stoner

what rear bar is that, kaymar! with built in towbar??
did you make the air tank and compressor mount, has it been pressure tested or anything, just curious, looks sweet,
GU_Thomo

Thanks to all of you for the comments
The Kaymar rear bar has been modified and the towbar built in. (the photograbh is during fitting. The towbar is now welded to the bar to finish it off around the cutout)
The air tank was made and pressure tested. It has 110 psi cutout switch and an automatic pressure relief valve as a second safety point.
The air is available from the tank with a Quick connection and also runs to the engine bay where the Air lockers are supplied and another Quick connection. There is also a malual bleed valve in the system to remove any moisture.
That is OK in QLD but possibly not elsewhere as no ASA approval

hi mate you got a sweet setup there. i read u got a boost controller there, you wouldnt happen to know what psi they run standard and wat you cant get out of them without to much trouble?i got a 4.2 td gu ute and its a bit on the gutless side at the moment, the turbo is fairly quite and doesnt sound like it runs much psi at the moment standard

I am not sure of the boost figures so I will not mislead you with what I think they are.
I will talk to the guy who did the work and let you know.
I think you will find the limiting factor will be how thirsty you make the engine, they really drink a lot if you boost them high or drive them hard
Have a look at Greg's GU http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=29796
They are discussing boost and the implacations there

Response from the guy who did the turbo work
" Factory boost actuator was set at 10psi on the day we dyno’d it however the actual boost was only 8psi. The factory waste gate restricts boost. For some time now have been watching the power development on a mates 4.2 GU. The engine runs 30psi in race trim, 25 on the road. Internally the engine is standard. It is 50000kms old. It has only just started to show signs of distress. Obviously the fuel, turbo charging, intercooling and exhaust systems on that engine are non factory big dollar items. The factory turbo, while able to produce 20psi, becomes thermally inefficient at anything over about 15psi. The turbo is simply spinning so hard that it pushes hot air into the engine. So to answer your question, if I had a good fuel pump, good turbo/intercooler and exhaust, I would be confident with boost levels at 15-16psi. Yours is set at 12.5"
Hope this helps

how good is your rig..............i have been tossing around ideas on an air set up in my head for months, laying in bed late at night listening to the misses snore while i come up with a millon ideas, not one of them is even close to how good and effective yours looks, i'm sold.
was most of the work already done to your wagon when you got it , or like most of us has it been done over time. man i wish all that was done to mine when i picked it up, would have saved me a lot of time and an empty wallet......... but thats half the fun hey.

Ah I cannot Lie.
I have been looking for a 4.2L for 12 months and tried to buy several but missed out. I then saw this and fell in love.
The guy who did it is a perfectionist and has several 4WDs.
Business and family committments meant something had to go and I got lucky.
It has done very little off road work and when it did he spent 2 days just cleaning underneath. It is better than new!!
The list of mods and the logic behind everything he did is amazing.
If you have seen issue 95 it was the featured vehicle.

The wiring runsfrom the lights around the roof rack frame to a plug then down and through the top of the center door pillar.
All held neatly in place with cable ties.
A bit hard to explain so I will take some photos and post them on the weekend

Thanks for your comments mate.
I suggest you pay off that XTrail ASAP.
This is my first Nissan of any kind and I must say I am very happy with the Patrol. I chose it as I believe the 4.2TDI is last of the almost unbreakable and uncomplicated offroad vehicles available.

A very frosty morning in Moss Vale.
A very rattley cold start.
Have any of you other 4.2 Diesel Patrol owners managed to reduce the cold start rattles.
Also I have a Mazda Tribute for sale

Thanks for the comments but I cannot take the credit.
I had been looking for a late model 4.2TDI patrol that I would set up for touring for about 18 months. I had made a few offers and missed out.
This one came up and I was just lucky.
The guy who did the work is a perfectionist. He has several 4WDs and a business opportunity meant he needed to sell his CT and the Patrol.
The Air tank is a work of art and works brilliantly.
It supplies the lockers as well as the Tires
The only issue is it is not Standards Australia certified and depending where you are it may not comply with your state's vehicle regulations.

Hey GU'NIT sorry it has taken a while to reply, I have been getting a new hip.
There have been a few minor upgrades like Intercooler fan, upgraded driving lights, new batteries but the most important change has been getting it engineered and registered in NSW and thankfully the only thing I had to do was install a speedo correction unit.:D :D
I have been spending $$$ on a full set of recovery gear, spares, hand held UHF radios, GPS, Engel fridge and a host of other necessary equipment for touring.
The big expense has been the purchase of the Kimberely Kamper.
When I am fully recovered from the hip operation we are heading out west touring for a few months.
Cheers

Hi AJ, very well spotted. You are right no muffler just 3" all the way through when the pics were taken. It was not very loud at all. In fact it sounded great, however it created an annoying resonance particularly in the back seat. I have now got a very small straight through muffler which has hardly reduced the volume but has eliminated the resonance.
So still sounds sweet.
Cheers
Parry
