I was wondering if anyone has ever fitted an intercooler to a 1HZ with a after market turbo, whether it be air-air,water-air or glycol-air. I am running a Garrett turbo on mine and was wondering whether there was much of an improvement in power and/or exhaust temperatures with a intercooler.

Me 2 allthough i got mine with a package from MTQ turbo's in Toowoomba bout 3 years ago. Makes about same power as latest cruiser 6 turbo's but just not as refined. Its not stressed either running 12psi through air-air via bonnet mounted nissan scoop.

Hi guy's
When i had my 80Series with aftermarket turbo it went ok -a DTS system.
i put the intercooler on as i was towing a bit at the time & while to me it gave not much more power it was better up hills with a bit more torque & was happy to have it on , but at the time i didn't know much about turbo boosts & EGT's etc & ended up with a cracked #6 piston .
But was happy with the preformance . Oh yeah intercooler was a DTS system as well .

You'll see topic's in 4WD Monthly with base 100's -vs- Turbo 100's , which i got now , while they say output is nearly the same - it is no where near it in the real world as the 1HD-FTE kicks it's ass up hills fully loaded [i know as i've had both & both vehilces fully decked out with goodies]
The mag's storys are just to save you a $ - which if fine , but to get your bum into a live axel instead of IFS one - which they can't do again unless the test a 200Series against the [Prado]76 in the future

cheers guy's

Got a DTS turbo abd intercooled system running 16psi.

Bloody thing flys.
Just make sure that the fuel pump is set properly and you wont have a problem.
Mine has done over 280K with over 100k of that as a turbo, never had a problem.

thanks gutys for the tips, and yeh i am running more fuel through it and about 12 psi at the moment, so i might consider it an look into a few local prices.

An intercooler will help lower the EGT that is all that matters in a 1hz. Although you dont see much power increase on a dyno they help when cruising in high ambient temps, air to air do not provide much difference at low speeds 4wd from my experience. My lst 1hz ended up with major blow by casused by too much exhaust temps. when i stripped the engine i had cracked all 6 pistons and the head. That will teach me for 15psi and too much fuel. I have just finished rebuild and back on the dyno this week with a reduced fuel mix to keep the EGT under 500 degrees

Hi just got a few question if you dont mind, What EGT's did you run before? and did you have a Pyro gauge? are you still going to run 15psi?

I just had mine intercooled, "Ya gotta do it" its great, The fuel flow thing can be an issue with consumption and smoking at lower speed etc but a good mechanic can sort that, mine is now running so well I have 100kws at the rear wheels and she accelerates like a car up hills and overtaking, My engine temperature is lower than pre turbo

yeh there isnt any room for a front mount on them, without doing away with the air con and grill.

yeah.... i got no air con! air to water intercoolers are so expensive! for me anyway!
