GPSOZ are good to deal with. I got my etrex from them on line. I live out bush and it got to me in a few days not sure if they have a store in Brissi though There at Mona Vale 02 99999 2313.
The ozi explorer is great.
I haven't used mine on the laptop as yet but every waypoint I make on a trip gets loaded to the computer when I get home and they go straight on to the maps that are in the program and then you can edit them like putting in track notes, brdges, PUBS, HOTELS, CLUBS and the likes

ok cool,
but what i want to know is if i download a map to my gps, will it guide me street by street like a sat nav to my destination? eg. turn right in 100m etc...

As far as I know, the etrex itself wont give you satnav directions, if you want large maps and navigation along the lines of turn left 100m you will have to use a pc/laptop as well and use the etrex as a gps reciever.

I think even then you might be pushing it uphill. I haven't seen any software street mapping that is able to run with the garmin model you have. I have ozi-explorer and natmap raster. I have a streetpilot3 and a handheld camo that both can run the navigation for ozi. but unless garmins software 6.01 can be ran through ozi, I think you will have to get another unit. I bought a garmin unit with 3d mappimg and voice nav for my wifes var for $350 not to bad. Don't buy the others there crap

Garmin only accept their own mapping products, that is why I went with ozi explorer. The one Garmin cable powers Etrex and connects into computer at the same time, computer has it's own 12v car supply to use going up the road. I download info after each trip into computer and add info like TORQUE STEER does. Works well for me and I use paper maps while in the bush too.

the only handheld GPS i have seen which has all the benifits of off-road nav, and all the benifits of on-orad, including voise guidance etc, color screen and also does marine mapping, and totally programmable thru your computer is the Garmin Quest.

As skoobs and marvic say, you can hook up the gps to the laptop with oziexplorer gps mapping software and suitable maps. This program works with Garmin. Then activate Moving Map in oziexplorer and you have what it seems you are looking for - your position tracking on the screen. It's great, do it all the time. Careful how you mount the laptop though!!

I use "UBD Australian City Streets V3" on my laptop and have my ETrex hooked up to it. It wont guide you as such but it will show you where you are on the map and highlight the streets you want.
