Hi all,

Bad news when I woke up this morning!

I had just purchased this truck (didn’t have it insured yet) had it for 3 weeks and last night my patrol was stolen from Sunderland St Mayfield (Newcastle).

The bastards must have been sneaky cause it has a loud V8 and no broken glass around where it was parked. It also has a list of mods as follows: 4” king springs, 2” body lift, tough dog panhards F/R, 6” rancho RS 5000 F/R, 3rds productions upper rear trailer arms, safari snorkel, bonnet scoop, sports steering wheel, steel winch bulbar with sidesteps, 15”x10” chrome speedy rimes with 35x12˝” goodyear wranglers, under the bonnet it had a VL 88 model 5L 308-4 speed T700 box with hurst shifter, runs on gas also.

As you can see it has had a lot of work done, so I’m beyond pissed off about it. Really keen to catch the pricks who have done this! So if you see any cheap parts out of the list above, or have any other info, big or small- let me know on 0431 092 346 Lee.

Thanks guys.

Hi guy great news today as you might have already heard.

This is how the story goes finished work early on Monday to go search for my truck in the Medowie state forest with a mate. Didn’t get in the bush till about 3pm and with no real knowledge of the area we just picked a track and went for it.

We were driving around for about 15 minutes when we came across some of my tyre tracks being Goodyear wranglers there very distinct. So we followed the tracks into the bush for about 5km till we came up to some over head power lines.
Across the other side there was a track that looked like someone had just driven a car straight into the bush and made there own track.

So we followed that for a while till we came to the end of the track.
And what was at the end? There were 4 cars including mine, there was a 60 series landcruiser that had been fully striped, a Holden jackaroo that had a few door ripped off but still drivable which the owner drove home.

A white lwb GQ (rego number RYI-209) that’s still down there with no owner as yet its pretty beat up with a lot of panel damage but the car was still in tact
Then there was mine which had been driven the furthest in. At first glance I thought the worst but on closer inspection there wasn’t much damage at all compared to the others. There was one dint in the roof sill and the front left hand side guard was a bit bent up a lot of bush pin stripes and a broken mirror. The only things missing was the steering wheel, cd player, speakers, gear knob off the Hurst shifter, taco, a heap of recovery gear and a heap of cds.
With a new steering wheel and some fuel I drove it out to the road and on to the back of the tow truck.

Whilst showing the Police at 8:30pm Monday night where the vehicles were they managed to catch 3 guys leaving the scene on James rd with somebody’s Bundera on a float being towed by a white unregistered Range Rover.

I would like to thank each and every one of you guys for your help in our recovery of our trucks, without your help and information we would never have found them.

If you would like pics of the car that is still there or my car? I will have to email them to someone that can post them up for me. Also if any one else needs any help to recover there car I would be more than happy to help.

Thirsty2454

Thats bloody good news.I hope the guys that they caught are actually the guys that ripped off the cars and not just pricks that are taking advantage of the wrecking yard.

Whoa..

Can you imagine stumbling across these cars while in the bush ?

What a suprise you'd get.

I'm really glad you found it, albeit missing numerous items.. but the majority of it's still there.

Did you get any photos of this 60 ? or of the rest of the scene ?

if you did, i'd like to see them ( for my curiosity :( )

email them to dan.the.hdt.fan@gmail.com if possible.

Must also say.. excellent detective work to you and everyone who helped.. what was your initial reaction when you saw the tyre tracks / found the car ?

Good stuff!

If you leave it parked out the front of your place, knock the transfer case into neutral, the average non-4wder won't have a clue as to why it won't change gears!

Wow, its not offten you get your car back in ok to good condition. My Dad has had his car stolen at paramatta speedway, my brother had his LJ tozza stolen from c coast, and his vl stolen from c coast while he was at the movies. Smart bastards because he rekons they wait and watch you walk into the movies, then by the time you walk out and see your car gone, ring or go in and report it, the bastards have already had 2-3hrs head start. Sneaky fu*#ers. ANyways, WHAT tHE hEll HaPPeneD to these car crims just stealing Commodores???!!!!. I really hoped the day wouldnt come when they were clued up enough to start stealing 4X4's, with all our accersories, recovery gear, wheels/tyres i think most of our done up 4B's would out price an adverage street machine.
I feel for all those who have had there car stolen, im lucky i have not had this happen to me.
Some tips like leaving your Tcase in neautral is excellent idea but if those bastards read this or other forums, your giving them the answers why the car dont move. That one best circulated around clubs and friends i think. The best idea is to get a kill switch hooked up to your coil ussually, Its not hard i think it just earths out your coil so it wont give spark. You can hide the switch in a secret place, and if you hide your wiring they wont be able to find it. Did you have a club lock? maybe thats why they unbolted your steering wheel? they are not much good, but again take more time for the crimm to steal your rig. Solace or equivilant type locks are also good as some old toyota locks can be opened with a paddle pop stick!, or worn toyota key. An alarm is always good way to hear them if there stealing it from your home, not much good in a car park or remote area from what ive been told. They have a little LED that flashes, another great idea to deter the ars$holes. Alarms go cheap on ebay, i picked one up for $200 with a remote start off your keyring! great for warming up your truck in the morning! So get to work guys, make your car more of a deterant than an easy pick, and install that kill switch that will take them hours to find or never find at all.

glad to hear the trucks not too bad, hopefully a good service and she will be fine,i have found it does'nt really matter what you do to the car to make it harder to steal,if the bastards really want something they will take it no matter what, the 4wd'd that are getting stolen these days always seem to be the ones where they can strip them really quickly and sell the parts really quick,eg-patrols,cruisers,hilux's etc,if you buy off ebay, ask how long they have had the product, what they know bout 4wd'ing and see if they still have the car.
hope she tunes up allright

Very lucky indeed to get the 4by back even though there were a few pieces missing. My mate had his 60 series sahara pinched last year . Just rebuilt diesel and turbo and 4 new 35inch bfg muddies and uninsured. The pricks who stole it used it to rip a few atms outa the wall then just took it out the back of penrith and burnt it to the ground. Cops seen them watching it burn and chased them up bells line rd and they crashed their own car and got caught. He didn't get the cruiser back as when he went to check it out it was gone ( 4hrs after being notified) and he aksed the cops if they took it away for evidence as the atms were still in the rear, They denied taking it away and they also said don't even bother trying to get money outa the thieves as they are well know and unemployed and have nothing

  .

We had ratbags do the job on our car a few years back and they were sprung.
One of them contacted us and offered to knock off another car to get the bits to repair ours! WTF!!

The Cops said the same to us as you about them being broke and all but the insurance company thought different. When the buggers went to court and got a a fine, the judge ordered them to repay the insurance co (who had a rep there). Apparently they were known to the Cops and Insurance co. Then they declared themselves banrkupt to get out of paying it back but it didn't work and they defaulted on the fines, got periodic detention and still had to pay the money back because it was court ordered.

Why can't more magistrates do this? OK, a slap on the wrist ( a $ fine for the offense) but pay for your damage as well?

Our car got fixed under insurance with no excess because the offenders were identified and their whole world went to shit!

Justice is cool if it works :D

I have a little 'tool' that I keep hidden on/in the Patrol incase I lock myself out and with it it takes about 4-5 seconds to unlock a GQ door with no sign of entry/damage. They are not hard to get into so it might be an idea to take other measures to stop them or at least slow the wankers down.
PS the 'tool' wil stay our little secret.

Nah you have to take the first left and a couple of other turns but you end up out at them powerlines. Think i no the gate your talking about and if you keep following the powerlines you will come across the track on your right.

Yer I live round the corner from this bloke and had my modified shorty GQ stolen at a similar time, found in a similar place but about a month after it was stolen.

My theory is that the people are absolute idiots I think you could simply put the transfer case in Neutral and that would be enough to f#@$ em. Then again my car was sitting out the front of my joint with no front brakes and they managed to drive it 30 mins to medowie.

+1 night drive to medowie.

It would be nice to get them into a position where they had to explain where all the gear was. Then make then take you to where the gear is and make them get it back, then make them pay for the damages done to the vehicles. If they have to sell a kidney on the chinese blackmarket to pay for the damages then so be it, they should have though of that before hand.

You see I want my JVC DVD player back... I don't want to fork out another $500 that I earnt through hard honest roof tiling work, which isn't a bloody nice job in the middle of summer.
