I have an MH Triton (see my avatar) and it currently has 28" B'stone Duelers which have been excellent tyres for me. I am planning on fitting 31" tyres as they are more commn than 28" tyres and thus cheaper to buy. To allow them to fit, I am hoping to get away with just removing the front mudflaps (factory) and somehow fit them back a bit further under the body. I have measured that the extra 1.5" of tyre should clear the increased area between the wheel and the rear corner of the front wheel arch. The rear wheels should have heaps of room. I was quoted around $2k for a 2" suspension lift, which is beyond my budget, hence I am opting for the 1.5" increased diff clearance offered by the 31" tyres. I have been told by a local mechanic that I can adjust the torsion bars at the front end to increase front clearance, but I am not too sure if this is correct as the mechanic is of some disrepute....
I also will need to recalibrate the speedo to compensate for different tyre diameter.

I have no experience with this but i could give you a few ideas.
First of all, i went to sell my 31inch tyres to a guy with a mazda bravo. Similar size truck, similar size wheel arch space to an early triton. I had my 31s mounted on landcruiser offset rims. And basically they looked huge and he couldnt get out of the driveway without scrubbing. With the correct offset rim you should be able to fit them standard... and with room to spare by cranking up your torsion bars (this is free just do it in your driveway and you can gain up to 2inch lift at the front- probably best riding at about 1 1/2inch lift) Just do a search on how to do it. And then at the back just make up or buy some extended shackles. Fancy ones fetch up to 200bucks for a pair, regular anti-inversion ones (ones that i prefer) fetch up to 100bucks and you can make your own for about 30bucks worth of steel (but you might as well buy them for a hundred bucks) These shackles will also gain you more flex, but if you carry heavy loads over time they may flatten the springs a bit. So if you do carry heavy loads at the back its better to get a new spring pack which will set you back about 400bucks fitted from any suspension place. But you dont need to get a mechanic to fit shackles. You only need a bit of patience and know how to turn a spanner. I have previously had no mechanical experience but after doing a few bits and pieces i could do it in half an hour. And now i do all my suspension work because it is really quite easy. You might as well spend another 40bucks and get new bushes on the back too. New shocks are nice, but you dont need them. If you are happy with your ride then just leave them.

So you dont need to spend 2grand on a lift, you can gain 2inchs of lift for a hundred bucks and then you can put some nice 31 AT's on which will improove your off road ability ten fold.
