my father has a MIO Navman, can he delete this software off the MIO and replace with better stuff? (they havent done a map upgrade for this in 5 years!!)

Sensis are responsible for the mapping upgrades, and release one every year.

MIO and NAVMAN are seperate companies like FORD and HOLDEN

Both companies have a customer hotline you can ring.

There was a map update in November last year, it included the M7 (sydney) but not the Cross City and Lane Cove changes (sydney rds again).

I have a Mio 169 thats around two years old now, the map update order form can be found at http://www.mio-tech.com.au/miomapv3/default.asp
