Hey guys,

I am seriously thinking of lifting the cab of my single cab lux for more tyre clearance. I have the use of a hoist to lift the cab away fromt the chassis once I have removed the mounts. I just want to know the ins and outs of it before I decide to go ahead.

I have gathered fragments of info from all over the forum and want to know which are myths and which are true, from people who have done it

- From what I have read to lift the cab by 50mm I need a body lift kit ( duh ) but what material is best?

- The radiator shroud can be cut to allow clearance for the fan, or drop the radiator

- The inner boot for the short gearstick needs to be cut or removed?

- The steering shaft pinch bolt can be undone and allowed to drop then retightened?

is there anything that I am missing or need to watch for, besides cosmetic things like the bullbars and that. Is there a cheap way to lift the tray?

Just lift the tray with body blocks (or could use 50x50 RHS depending on how your tray is set up).
Also need to unwind the hard brake lines and possibly extend or move your fuel filler hose and earth cable. Keep an eye on your handbrake cable. Shouldn't need to be changed but worth watching out for anyway.

on mine, i left the radiator where it is. Just took the shround off.

over time, ive cracked the top neck on the radiator 3 times becasue of the added stress is on being 2" higher.

To overcome this, u can drop the radiator, re weld the neck on so its pointing down. or get different radiator hoses (not sure if that would work tho, unless there pretty flexible and long)

I also had to entend my fuel filler hose.

I also had to cut out a notch in the frame thing that holds the gearstick boots to the body, light aluminium thing. This was to allow it to get into reverse.

and one of my earth wires snapped...mayb the main one? im not sure, it was on the fire wall to the manifold

hi luxes are one of the easiest vechile to lift all the thing that you have covered with make it a suscful lift just use common snese when lifting look at all componets but dont go more than 2 cause after that you have to starting doing some bigger mods hope this helps

The Hilux single cab bodylift is so easy to do its not funny
Don't cut the boots around the levers & radiator is no problem.
I prefer to use hi density nylon as there is no electrolois problems
cheers

that zordo guy know's what he is talking about i got some advice on my suspesion and it has help me out heaps on our race truck when we did the cab lift we had no problem with the fan hitting the shroud so we left it untill we were racing and put a hole in it so we took it out makes it easier to work on

I have a 98 dual cab and would like a 2inch body lift. Is it as easy to do as the single cab? Will i have any problems with my radiator, gear lever or brake lines? Would Stainless Steel be alright to use as a body block?

hey all

I have just bought a 1998 hilux extra cab, few hours after buying i got a 2" lift kit and the bug of adding more mods has gotten bigger. Im looking at a 2"body lift. The kit that im going to buy is from Snake Racing. i have read the thread and just wanting to know is it much harder to lift than a single cab??? and what will i have to look out for???

thanks
Aj
