I have had a USB receiver for a couple of years now. It is a Techway TP-051. I recently bought a new car computer for the 4by but I can't find the driver for the reciever anywhere.

Now I am getting a bit confused. I few people have told me you dont need a driver for a GPS reciever but when I plugged it in it automatically asked for a driver download.

I am running XP with Oziexplorer. Does anyone know anything that can help me?

I have emailed the manufacturer in China a few times with no response and I can't even find anyone on the net that sells them.

Hi Walker,

You need the USB to Serial driver. What was the Tp-051 unit plug into before? Is it still working? If so, plug it back in, right click "My Computer" select Properties, then Hardware. from here, click on device manager, and locate the Serial port it assigns the USB adapter.

It should tell you what driver it is using, then you should be able to search the net for a replacement driver for the new CarPC.

OziExplorer expects a gps signal on a serial port, can't read a USB port, hence the driver is needed.

Cheers,
Barry

Thankyou so much. It has been driving me crazy and what you have said now makes sense.

Hopefully I can work it out because I have the same reciever in both my 4wd's and I can't really afford to get new recievers to replace them both.

No worrys. Forgot to ask who you emailed? If there's an email address, should be a website and with any luck a support page.

There is a little program, called Franson GPSgate. This might solve your problem as it takes the GPS input first and then passes it on to Ozi.
I use it to split the GPS input and have Ozi, Garmin and GPS tracking running at the same time, all using the same GPS unit.

You can have a look at the software at http://franson.com/gpsgate/. A trial version is free to download.

On the OZIEXPLORER site there is some utilities that might help??? Below is one that looks like a test wouldnt hurt to try,,,?

Hope this speeds things up for you....

GPS Port Checker Introduction
This is a simple program which scans the ports on a PC looking for an attached gps.
These Types of GPS are searched for :
Garmin

a Garmin USB GPS attached to a USB port.
a Garmin serial GPS with the interface in the GPS set to Garmin mode (in older models this is called "GRMN/GRMN Host" mode), the GPS must be connected to a serial port (also known as a Com port).
a Garmin GPS with the interface in the GPS set to "NMEA Out" mode, the GPS must be connected to a serial port (also known as a Com port) and must be outputting NMEA data.Magellan
A Magellan GPS must be configured to output NMEA data

a Magellan USB GPS in "USB File transfer mode" attached to a USB port. All relevant drives are scanned for the file "Default POI File.upt" in the "My POIs" folder, if this file is found then it is assumed that an attached Magellan GPS has created the drive.
a Magellan serial GPS, the GPS must be connected to a serial port (also known as a Com port).Other GPS Types
With all other GPS types all Serial Ports are scanned looking for NMEA data. Therefore the GPS must be outputting NMEA data if it is to be found.
Download
The program can be run by clicking on the link below and choosing the run option (if your web browser supports this) or saved to a folder on your PC and run from there.
Download the program GPS Port Checker (http://www.oziexplorer3.com/utils/GpsPortChecker.exe) (version 1.11)
