G'Day everyone,
I have asked before about a Navigation unit for on road and off road use in another thread buy my boss has just asked me which unit would be good to put into a couple of work cars to help some of our guys find properties etc..
These units will be for on road use only and will have to be easily read so the screen would have to be half decent size.. voice directions are a must! (which I believe will be pretty much a given with any modern unit anyway)
Also these guys travel with laptop computers too so even if they choose not to use the laptop with the unit it would be preferable to have the ability to use them with the unit..
They are talking around the $600 mark per unit..
Is there any good units that will match up to these criteria so we can have a starting point when we front up to the retailers..
Any advice will be appreciated.
Cheers

mate head in to supercheap. sale on now that ends on the 6th of next month and you can pick up some great bargains at the moment. RRP on the navman N40i is about 699 but at the moment you can pick it up for about 620. beautiful unit with excellent features
- inbuilt camera - can take a picture of a place and the gps will pinpoint its location and save it. when you want to go there next just scroll through images and press it on the touchscreen... and away you go.
also has all the normal gps features.. lightweight.. simple plug and play. has bluetooth. also has anti fingerprint screen which is handy if your crew are tradesmen. has a 3.5 inch screen...
loaded with good sensis maps... google search it mate.
cheers harry.

I personallty use GARMIN C550, Simple and reliable. Its GARMIN.
PROS : Dual speaker very clear
Very Simple to use
Other country maps are available through GARMIN
Reasonable price (get it just under $600 AUD)
SD CARD, USB and external GPS slot.
CONS : Limited connectivity function (i.e no bluetooth)
Limited informaton/functinality in term of the software
I use CoPilot 6 before in my PDA, honestly it got more function. But I dont like the hassle use it with PDA, I'm looking something reliable , reasonable price and ability to use it overseas. That's my main reason choosing GARMIN. Its only for street navigation anyway.

Carrying on from the forum, not to start wat could be another pointless thread. I have done a bit of research and have norrowed it down to 3 choices for an incar GPS unit:
Garmin nuvi 660
navman iCN 720
Tomtom Go 910
I want to be able to direct me via voice around the city but have the ability to go 4wding. No out in the middle of the desert 4wding but about 300km from the nearest major road.
The navman appeals to me coz it has the nav camera, but so do the others to coz the have bluetooth and FM traffic.
They all appear to have sortof the same maps preloaded.
Opinions please fellaz? any experiences or problems with these units?

My work has done the only thing that it knows how to do .... NOTHING!!! LOL
But in my homework I did come to the TomTom 910 as the unit to go with.... The guy at the shop says that he has used heaps of different ones and has found that the TomTom is much better and easier to use.. finds the satelites easier and overall a better unit.. the Navman however is better if you wish to take it out of the car and use it to navigate while walking around town etc..
I am now looking at the Tom Tom for my own car... there are some good buys at the moment too!

Don't buy anything besides Garmin. You can pick up voice guidance units for as low as $350. I have had experience with others and now I have 2 Garmin in car and one hand held. I use ozi explorer and hook them to laptop. Navman is crap
