If anyone could tell me a spot i can go an camp for a couple of nights maybe do some fishing or do some shooting would be good. I live in the northern suburbs of melbourne but happy to travel at max 3 hours. Thanks guys

When i lived in Thomastown I used to do all my camping and fishing along the sevens creek and around the Strathbogie ranges. Not sure what its like now but use to be great camping and you can get into the bush for some
4WDriving as well
If you go along the Maroondah hwy through Yea heading towards Mansfield and turn left at Merton and follow the road towards Euroa there are some nice camp sites along the creek with access of the road. Or follow the same road to the turn off to Polly McQuinns and camp at the dam. also can be accessed from Euroa if you travel up the Hume.

Not trying to be smart, but don't you mean go along the Melba Highway to Yea and then toward Mansfield.

Despite the recent fires, don't dismiss the areas north of Mansfield. Locals are begging for tourists again, and with some advice from locals I am sure you will find some good spots. All less than 3 hours from Melbourne.

I am a big fan of the Howqua Hills area. I don't camp at Sheepyard Flat, but tend to camp down the road at one of the spots. For me, it is usually Pickerings Flat. Great spot on the river, with some fishing and 4WDing thrown in.

Have fun if you ever head that way (Through Mansfield, then towards Buller, and turn off just past Merrijig onto the Howqua Track).

have you thought about Barmah State Forest? Me and my boys try and go usually 2 or 3 times a year. Theres a nice camping spot we use there called "60 mile Bend". Just check the maps out on its location exactly and how to get there.

Its right on the edge of the Murray and you can do some fishing there, the camping spot is nice and clean, not much rubbish there and you can shoot pests and vermin there aswell. If you lucky, you might come across a pig or two in the swamps when wet.

Thou the pig population has been cleaned up heaps in recent years and the drought hasnt helped but there are signs of pigs still about.
