I'm a bit stupid at times. I'm heading to the U.S. in August and thinking of buying a Exporist XL while I'm there. Now I understand that it comes with a base map of the U.S. but I obviously want to use it here. What do I need to do when I get back here? Is the what the base map and topo map is that you're referring to does? I'm also considering simply buying a pda and gps plugin using ozexplorer. Which is better or is there really no difference?

I'd get the XL over a PDA based unit as it is designed to be a GPS and not a PDA with extras. If you get it from the US when you are overthere contact http://www.thegpsstore.com/ as these guy have the best prices and postage within the us is cheap.
When you get it back you will need to buy software from GPSOZ for detailed mapping from scale 5KM down but above that there is nothing on the US model. send me a PM then and ill put you in contact with the disc holder.

I need an Australian Basemap urgently. Can some one put it online for me and I'll download it. I can't easily get stuff posted to me because I'm travelling.

I bought my Magellan in Australia to avoid all these hassles with basemaps, then upgraded the firmware of my Magellan XL from the US web site only to find that it had swapped out my basemap for an American one. I rang Magellan in Perth and they want me to send the unit to them and they may even charge me $300 just to install a basemap on a GPS that is supposed to already have the Aussie basemap.

I downloaded the firmware from the aussie magellan web site but it still didn't fix my basemap problem.

So now I'm stuck and don't know what to do to get my aussie basemap back. One thing's for sure, I'll never buy a Magellan again because their service is crap. They want me to send the unti to them just so they can do what I should be able to do myself. I can't be without my GPS because I'm travelling around Australia and need it everyday to record the trip.

The basemap isn't very big (about 9 megs). It's smaller enough to email, depending on your email provider's file size limits.

You guys need to get this on a bit torrent site. Save a shitload of time and hassle and it will be available 24/7 along as its seeded!

If you purchased your gps new here in australia from a dealer here then I would be guessing that you would already have the aus base map installed, you would know if you had the U.S version as it will have Nth America and U.S stuff on it be in miles etc etc which is easy to change to our side of the world km's etc the disk that is going around is for those that have the U.S base map preinstalled, as we have US versions, I havent installed the aus base map yet as I am using Aus streets and tracks and outback tourer so I don't really need the base map, but It's handy to have it though might need it for something one day..

Yep got it from the shop in town so have all the Aussie stuff
I do have 2 lots of the CD's that came with the unit somewhere
I thought I had lost the instructions and CD's and the shop gave me
anothers set , are they any good to anyone

I just bought myself the older Magellan Map330 from Nth America which has the Nth American base map!!!

Does anyone know how I can get the base map for this gps as I already have the Discover Aus cd but can't upload it to my gps as I have the wrong version software to go with Discover Aus :cry:
