i've had my darche since ~'95. it was one of the first dome ones i saw. Only used the poles once before loosing them. Now i use an okky thru the clips and hook it to the car. I've put in a high density foam mattress under the original and i keep 3 pillows (now the size of one!) and two blankets in it. The fly is getting a little old, will replace before too much blood is lost to the mozzies. The missus swore never to touch it but i talked her into laying on it and can't believe how comfortable it is, even though it smells like a campfire.

I made up my own.
Used a borrowed small basic one on a trip with some troubled school kids a few years back, and decided I definately needed foot room.
I originally liked the idea of the twin hooped ones with insect mesh from the largest hoop, to halfway down, and the mesh at the large end, but didnt like the idea of how they worked if it rained, ie, swag full of water, then came across some with the hoop 1/3 along, and self supporting.
Decided to make my own, and can use it either hooped, or without (often leave it hooped during the day to let it air out, and have it flat at night.
I made it large enough for 2 at a friendly squeeze, but spacious for one, plus any gear next to you over night.
Wifey had some old wool laying around unused due to its high vegetable matter content, so I used this stuff to make a woolen quilt with some cotton material. Used a matteress overlay as the base, and again coverd it with some older cotton sheets made up like a large pillowcase so it can be easily removed.
Love it.

No no NO never loan your swag to anyone. 1st one I had last 5years before brother lost it! Then I found one on the side of the road when we were living out near Roma! Musta fallen outa some fellas ute. That one got stolen off my ute. Now in one I bought at a garage sale for $5!! It's got the auscam pattern which is a bit wanky but it was only 5 bucks. What can you say at that price?

Got 3 swags from Bob Burrage about 2 years ago, and my old Longreach (5 yrs). Write all the trips on the inside of the top flap to keep a diary. Good to look at when missing trips. Wife and 2 boys would not sleep in anything else now. Under tarp when weather is good, in tent otherwise.

8 years, its been all over, loaned out don't know how many times (yeah but I'm careful to who), re-water proofed it once. I swear by it.
I "test drove" :truck: it in a busy Boots store one Thursday late night shopping nite. Fell asleep in it while the Wifey was asking questions of the sales lady. Figured if I could sleep in it there, I could sleep in it anywhere.
Its a "double" swag but ya wouldn't want to be fighting with the Wifey just before bedtime.
All in all it's the single best bit of camping gear I've (we) ever bought. :thumb:

Yeah i got the Mr swagman original double a couple of years back, i asked him why should i pay $100 more for his over one off ebay and his reply was "if you get mine and are not 100% happy ill give you your money back and pay for postage both ways" can't get more confident then that, by far the best swag ive ever been in, canvas breaths but stays SOOOOOO warm i only need a blanket in single figure temps when camping!

I've had mine for 15 years, still in good condition (yes, it does get used!). Full heavy duty mozi netting etc...the trouble is I am now too tall and wide for it. I have been looking around for a new one and will be getting a Mr Swagman when I do.
had mine about 5 yrs, it was made at the local canvas man. Simple, but teh canvas is like the stuff you find on your heavy duty tarps, ive slept in rain in it and she doesnt leak a bit. Jut has the push button clips on the side an ends. I ran over it once with me cruiser, still got teh tyre mark over it, just adds character to it.
My single darche just turned 10 this year. Still in great condition with the well weathered look!!!!
Waterproofed the canvas with a wax based stuff once - worst thing I ever did. For about a year it was like sleeping under a tarp - waterproof but didn't breathe like its s'pose to so the condensation was crap!!!!
Also have an "as new" secondhand darche ($150) with the old fibreglass poles and a Double Darche (ebay) that we must have had for about 4 years.
No complaints about the Darche here!!!!!

Mine's a double Bluey swag I bought almost ten years ago. Have had a dog sh!t on it, my-then fiance barfed in it (she's now my missus), a passing road train blew it off the ute, used it as a tarp under me for an oil change, hung it up as a welding screen, spilled many a bundy (the shame!) inside it, and I have even lent it to my brother who smokes a pack of ciggies a day. Guess what? The zip still works 100%, and there's no odours at all axcept for a bit of an oily dust smell. This thing is gonna last me a lifetime guys!

does anybody know how to do zippers like mantianice
Stick of Dry Lube, or even a rub with a wax candle should loosen the zip up.
If your fussy you could even hit it with the silicone spray, although it will make it greasy and a bugger to grab hold of after a few cans.......
