I use a 3 burner Jackaroo gas stove with a BBQ hotplate on the top - works great! I keep it in one of those primus gas stove bags - just slide the bbq hoteplate back into its cardboard box and then place it and the gas stove in the page.
If I know I'll be needing a pot I'll take one along with me but most of the time the hotplate is used to cook everything :D

Jon

I've got a coleman dual fuel 414 Powerhouse too. That thing sure has a NICE flame/burner on it! I also have a 2 burner jackaroo gas for backup :)

I have used a Cobb for almost everything the last couple of years, other than when I can light up a decent fire and use a camp oven or two. Unfortunately too many places you can't do that these days. Looking at building a slide-out kitchen into a camper trailer that I'm doing up at the moment and haven't decided what stove / cooker to put in that yet. So also interested in hearing what other people find best, especially to build into slide out kitchen.

Best camp stove? Does my little hexy stove count? Had since I was a small kid and still goes strong. Cooks your food in minutes, small, easy and no expensive gas refills! You don't need anything else....unless you have a family or want to cook fancy, or a steak....

mate i have trouble with my dual fuel and it's a pretty large camping stove. For myself and my wife and our little one we've always got 2 burners going when cooking even if one's only to heat up the kettle ;) Come to think of it, sometimes i've got the gas ring burning on the ground with a roast in the campoven and up on the kitchen bench i've got the kettle AND a pot on and i still complain about lack of burners :) hehe

I been wondering this. I was looking at those butune single burners, but could be an issue if you want to cook 2 pans and once...on our trip up the cape we took 2 single butane burners for this purpose. we later found that if you use a butane cooker and a small gas bottle with a single burner (wok type ring) mounted on top of it works really well. the problem with the butane cookers is that they take forever to boil water, the gas bottle with the burner on top does it in a tenth of the time.
so for future trips it's 1 butane cooker and 1 small gas bottle with a removable wok type ring burner on it.

That's a good point. My jackaroo 2 burner gas takes FOREVER (ok, maybe only 10-15mins) because it has standard little burners. When i've got my kettle on my dual fuel's big burner cranked right up it's down to 2-3 minutes :)
I barely have time to get the mugs ready :)

i got one of those hot plates for my 3 burner last week, took it away on the weekend and love it.
i dont think i will use a fry pan ever again with that now. not too sure how much gas it uses when i have all 3 burners going though.

We Mostlt Use A Camp Fire, but If We Do Need Some Thing Easy We Use Those Butane Gas Stoves For Emergencies(rain, wind, late Camps).they Are Great, dont Take Up Much Room And You Can Pick Up Spare Cartridges From Most Remote Stations/roadhouses:d

Coleman Dual Fuel. No problems with carrying compressed gas and easy to refill, just need to find a source of unleaded fuel, bloody economical as well.

I went camping last night and i am still amazed at how quickly my dual fuel stove boils water. I put the 1.5L kettle on max flame last night to heat up the water for washing up and it was 45 seconds till the water was too hot to touch :)

Yes :) I got a manual on how to clean it and pulled it apart and gave it a real good clean and i think the generator was on too tight from factory and it seems to run great now. Since i adjusted the generator it doesn't get flooded as often :)

Twin burner mounted on swing tailgate for camping and roadside breaks. Prefer to cook on removable hot plate / grill over old washing machine tub, keeps you warm and kettle hot for the missus (not rapt in being called a handbrake)

I love my Coleman Dual Fuel stove. cheap as to run no gas bottle to lug around, 5lt ULP for about $7-8 last for 3 weeks plus, breakfast, lunch and tea. Oh and you just can'y beat the little butane jobbie for a quick cuppa

Our camp stove will turn 40 next year. It's a 'Tudor' brand stainless steel model, has given no trouble except for the very occasional rust speck in a jet. (about a 5 min fix to remove and blow out)

Coleman Dual Fuel. I also have a stainless steel sealable container bolted in near the exhaust. Great for heating up some soup or muffins for when you stop - or even canned food.
