you may not want to use a good laptop for incar since its gonna get bumped round, dusty and shaken to the shit.
GPS antena ebay
maps - depends on the software u use, some come with maps others allow you to scan in or use digital maps.
comes down to how much you want to throw at it

The Haicom 'mouse' type GPS's are pretty good as Wally mentions. I use one of these myself as well.
Software wise, one of the most popular programs is oziexplorer (http://www.oziexplorer.com). You'll still need to obtain maps - The Natmap 1:250,000 series covers all of Australia. These can be purchased on CD, and I believe it can be downloaded for free from the govt site (not sure of the addr).
Note though: Ozi is not currently certified for use with Vista. Put simply, Vista is too new, for the GPS/Mapping software guys to have released a 'Vista' version yet. The ozi website has a page showing what to do/expect when installing the latest available version though. Seems it will work with some configuration changes, etc.
