Mate, the power steering is a snap. Source a 60-series set up from the wreckers. You'll need to add crush tubes to the chassis rails where the steering box bolts through, and you'll need to slightly modify the shock support strut to allow clearance for the intermediate steering shaft.
In terms of the gearbox, I've just finished installing a five speed out of an '84 FJ. I left the bellhousing in place and the gearbox just bolted up. As usual, its all the fiddling around afterwards - driveshafts requied modification, handbrake relocate to back axle, transmission tunnel cover plate required a few mods as well. Make sure you have agood look at the box and t/case and have rebuilt if it looks even a little suss as it's heaps easier to do it at this stage.
All up, it took a couple of weekends and the effort was well worth it - the 5 speed and 2H are a perfect match.
IF ... you can locate an old Fairy overdrive unit ;D,take it from me, an eight speed box can be very handy too. ;D ;D ;D
