Were do I get a "Stable Table" for laptop for GU (manual).?

How is it fitted and any ideas on prices.?

When 4wding is it still usable or does it have to be put away and does it make the passengers ride uncomforatble?

The ones ive seen advertised have got three flexable legs which mould to what shape you need but i can't understand how that is safe while driving on corrigation (or up crebb track)

Thanks to all who answer my thread. :)

best thing to do is install a custom laptop stand & bolt it to either the floor or just under the dash on the passenger side

I got sick of trying to safely mount the laptop and keep the front seat passenger happy. I now use an 8"" touchscreen and keep the lappy in the passenger seat pocket out of the way. RAM mounts make a laptop mount that bolts to the passenger seat mounting points but it's too exxy for me.

Bought the screen off Ebay from Hong Kong, cost about $250ish, 7" screens were a bit cheaper.

Yo Pat.

Where AND how did you mount your touch screen?

Got a 100 series and looking to do the same thing only with a "mini PC box" I'm gonna make up myself from spare bits lying around the house.

I'm running oziexplorer on the lappy at the moment using a bluetooth GPS reciever. Works a treat! It's a good back-up for the magellan Meridian platinum the handbrake bought me 5 yrs ago.

Also have the palm running TomTom 6 which is surprisingly good for some out of the way tracks!

I've only used it with a temporary mount so far, last week at Robe and Beachport, and a few weeks ago in the Riverland. I made a bracket out of MDF wedged into the slot below the CD/radio. Visibility was good, didn't vibrate too much on corrugations etc. I'll probably make a permanent bracket and mount it in there somehow, just gaven't figured out how. Wanted to make sure it was visible in different lighting conditions etc, which it was, first.
I had a look at a mates GU last weekend, he's got a steel bracket under his dash mat. it's velcroed onto the dash, and fastened to the air vents with cable ties. He's done the CSR, Hay river and Cape York with that set up.

its not hard to wire up a laptop into your rigg, but u do have to know your doing... and once u touch your lappy in any tech way the warrenty is void unless you are a trained technician for the company, so u are better off buying one through the people u want to install it... dont buy these types of things off the net there is virtually no suport if anything go's wrong... its not worth the trouble...

Lost me there> I plug the 12V supply into the laptop, plug the GPS into a USB port, plug the monitor into a USB port and the VGA out port and off we go. What part of that would void any warranty.

Glad to be of assistance. I've ordered from them once and they were very helpful.

Yeah Ram Mounts are tops...I have one in my GQ and they are awsome. The only problem with offroading with a laptop is you can kill the hard drives. They dont like the beating.

But still very handy. Mine has never moved or come loose.

www.ram-mount.com (http://www.ram-mount.com)

they have everything.

My wife is only small about (159cm) and hasn't effected her normal sitting position. The only thing that has effected is when the screen is up she can't see the road.(might need a couple of pillows) But if I tilt the screen down not a problem. It sits snug up against the side so it doesn't anoy the passenger

Yes it's from Gpsoz RAM universal vehicle mount.
Not to hard to install but take time as to fit it as tight up the side as you can as so you don't effect the passangers comfort.

Hi,
I also purchased a 7" in Dash screen from this site, service was great initially except it could'nt handle the vibrations offroad, only around Vic High Country and it has died twice, I Paid for return postage twice and He agreed to replace it with a 8" fixed touchscreen like you have brought as there are no refunds and instead sent me back the same in dash unit a month ago. I have not bothered to turn it on. I am still trying to get him to contact me again to discuss it.
Good luck with yours I hope it survives ok.

I have one of these and its great Had it in a Patrol and just reinstalled it in a 100 series. Had to buy a new leg at $30 as one wasnt long enuf anymore. If u get shake in the laptop I just turn it flush with the dash and put a sponge behind the screen. Stops most movement and shake. Dont be scared of bending the legs at acute angles as theywill restraighten ok. Found that keeping legs as straight as possible gives best results and check tightness of grubscrews regularly. Run laptop off a Waeco can shaped inverter, goes fine.
Use a Nokia phone with TOM TOM on it around town as its less obvious along with a bluetooth GPS
