We just got back from our long trip. Saw lots of great sites and had a fantastic trip. The Simpson was a joy, no problems and so much fun.

I am no expert but we had no troubles at all and only had to have a second go at a dune once, and we broke nothing- but here are a couple of gripes re driving techniques we observed-

-at least one person was using >25 psi in tyres- this is mostly too high a pressure to run on dunes.
-if you are having to have two goes at dunes- lower the tyre pressure further.
-you don't need to go hard at the dunes...if you do lower your tyre pressures further.
-If you are damaging your vehicle- you are most likely driving too fast.
-yes you can do the dunes in 2wd- but everyone following would gladly kill you if they catch you.
-please use and monitor channel 10 UHF.
- if you are drunk and driving in the desert, you are a fool - yes we saw some fools who gladly told us how drunk they were.

Cheers

They probably came straight from LCMP's 2004 expo.

It's the beer swilling yobbo's that end up tearing around the bush and giving the rest of us a bad name........

yep that's why it is so hard these days to convince land owners that you will do the right thing, can't blame them either, if my lively hood being cattle was at risk i wouldn't be too pleased either ::)
