Speaking of handbrakes my never worked, it just didnt seem to pull tight. I think that was a common problem with these 40s

Toyota still didn't fix the handbrake when they went to 70 seires, but the 40's do look good with big tiers and a nice V8.

Well you should be married to mine!! Pulls tight as!! bwaaaaaaaa!

Seriously, mine has't worked ever. I adjusted the shoes in the drum and the cable but still useless. In my rebuild I am thinking of removing the handbrake set up and fitting a motor bike disc brake in its place.... But I am putting disk's on the rear so I might be able to hook up a cable there too.

sparas, fit a hydrolic handbrake. they nice them is lol.( in my best redneck voice)

i love the 40 shortys. i wanna build one up so bad at the moment, basicaly to look like the one v8 40 showed. jsut not sprung over.

some people taught me how you can get 35s to fit at stock hight, fit a nice puring 48, or my 12ht, with a few mods, and the 40 would be a rocket...as well as a fully capable truck,

oh how i want one(should have bought one insted of the 60)

Cool guys. I have been on the ih8mud.com for a few bits and peices. Thats where I got the info for my power steering conversion (which is almost finished today) and the disk brake conversion on the rear next. I will check out the rzeppa one for sure. I thought of using a motorbike disk brake and caliper in place of the drum. Mount it between the spline and tailshaft....

The evolution of mine. started off standard on 33 AT's

then longer rear springs and shocks, trimmed the bullbar, threw on some 33 claws and a rear detroit

now it sits with longer front and rear springs and shocks, stretched wheelbase, 36 swampers, twin lockers, 60 series diff housings, and it's got a fresh ford 6 sitting on the shelf awaiting fitment.

agreed on that fullmetal. the second from last one in my first post was shocking. the ruts ripped the wheel out of my hand and i ended up mounting the bank. drove out of it thank god. my brother in the passenger seat swore black and blue that he could touch the ground out the window... i didn't let him try.

4 the snorkel i used a 3in stainless steel pipe with flexy hose
for the filter over the carby was a rubbish bin thats been cut down to fit. works really well an it cost me next to nothing as i already had the pipe so only cost me the flexy hose an some claps

fellas,
if you're after old FJ's there's two for sale locally (Central Vic) a 73(?) Shorty (a rebuild job but everything is there I believe, but not going)for about $1k, and a 77 FJ 45 Trayback ute (engine rebuild 2 years back, running, 10 months reg.) for $3k

PM me if you're interested.
I agree about the tailshaft handbrake.........bloody useless, always leave em in gear and chuck a brick under a wheel.

hey guys... love the pics.
thought I would instroduce myself...
i bought this about 5 years ago. was built about 12 years ago by a gentleman that used it as a promotional vehicle and recovery vehicle on Kidney Foundation events. Was set up for high speed gravel work, 31 inch tyres, sway bars, koni adjustables, tramp rods... stonking 308...

Since then I have had some BFG A/Ts put on and a pro comp suspension lift... I have maintained it and got a 60 series PS set up for it... unfortunately rust has nearly killed it... I have a new chassis for it though!

Looking at the 2nd pic, the thing to the left of the 'landcruiser' emblem is a small scoop that has a tube leading into the engine bay, 'bout 5 inchs long... probably doesn't do much but the more air the better on the ol 308! I thought they were stock but now you have mentioned it no one else has them...
Perfect for dual snorkels when I replace the 308 with fuel injected 304 and twin intake system!!! cant wait but the wallet says no!

your after a draglink end not tie rod (this may confuse parts people when ordering or sourcing) AFAIK the 40 and 55's had the same setup in the front end. Go to your local toyota dealer and get them to X referance the draglink ends (ask for the nonadjustable end) this will tell you if it will fit. You may need to get your draglink modified or fit a 55 draglink if the ends are non matching

EDIT:- just looked through some paperwork.......the 55 looks like it is a non adjustable draglink (the ends are fixed) cant be 100% sure of this though. If you havent changed the 40 steering idler (bellcrank thingo) you std 40 draglink and ends will fit. I'll post up some pics later today

i have been calling around asking for advice on my slight problem and it has beent seggested that i get a 55 tie rod end that will go into the draglink and get a custom arm made to link that tie rod end with a 40 series one that will go onto the bellcrank/steering idler. my only question is WILL THIS IDEA PASS THE PITS?

i am up for an rego inspection in like 2 weeks

again advice is MUCHLY apreciated...

14-02-2008, 11:18 PM
ouchiee:- I am guessing from your dramas that you have fitted a 55series steering box (pwr steer?) as your dramas are at the draglink to pitman arm end. You may need to think outside the square a bit (dont know what state your in and engineering req's for custom draglinks). Measure the pitch of the pitman arm hole (measure the small hole end, the large hole and the thickness/diameter of the pitman arm) take the measurements and the std 40series draglink end to a steering component supplier (possably Repco) and get them to cross-referance taper/pitch with thread size of the std end, they should be able to come up with a soulition that will keep the linkages stock and ADR compliant...............the other option is seeing if a 40 pitman arm fits your steering box if so fit up the 40 draglink

I could be reading in between the lines too much, if so ignore above^^^

fitted a 45 roof and rear pannel to my 40....spose its now a 40.5.......nothing pretty, but it gets driven....and punished

no pics of the rear as yet, just made up a cross bar aout of 2"x2" and fitted supports to the origional body/hard top mounts (it was a pain around the RH side due to the fuel filler).......as for water ingress, havent made any thing to fit in place (hasent rained here for a couple of months, and I'm a bit brain dead and go mudding with no top anyways). The plans are to make a new rear cage section with storage crate thingo, removable exo over cab section, and make use of the rear tub for storage with a custom hard top/lid

no pics of the rear as yet, just made up a cross bar aout of 2"x2" and fitted supports to the origional body/hard top mounts (it was a pain around the RH side due to the fuel filler).......as for water ingress, havent made any thing to fit in place (hasent rained here for a couple of months, and I'm a bit brain dead and go mudding with no top anyways). The plans are to make a new rear cage section with storage crate thingo, removable exo over cab section, and make use of the rear tub for storage with a custom hard top/lid

thanks for the comments

Hey all,

just a note to say i got through rego (thank god).i ended up goin with a custon made sleeve that was inserted into the draglink. it all works now although i have another question in regards to the steering. when i get up to speeds of 80km/h my 40 seems to stray a little too much however it is only on occasion. now the suspension is pretty hefty on it and im runnin 33x12.5" A/T's, so i was just wounderin if infact it is straying because the suspension has been beefed up a tad and im runnin larger tyres.

Finally got to test it out on the weekend. Freakin awsome off road, didn't slip once even on tracks with loose rocks.

any help with the straying problem again is muchly aprectiated.

Cheers

ouchiee96, I think you wil find that it will be a combination of caster angle (King pin inclination), and camber on the LH side steer. Has it been aligned lately?

what were their caster and camber figures (pre and post), or did they only adjust the "toe in", also you'll find that wider tyres on the 40 will follow the dips/traffic lines etc of the road

g'day guys
some great lookin 40's there from you all.

here mine, hope it works, first time posting a picture

the photo is a bit old, taken up on the murry one cupday weekend a few years back near Echuca
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj192/ToughTonka/DSCN2302.jpg

she's since had a few extras added, a new pair of Hella rally 2000's have been added, so goddamned big they are, perfect for night driveing, and she's got new, nothing super just a set of cooper ST's on some white sunraisyas.

if anybody here has put a 12HT (direct injection turbo) motor out the 60 series in a 40 please drop me a line with details as its the next big thing besides a set of OME springs to get fitted, and besides, why should i learn from my own mistakes when i can learn from others instead. :thumb:

just a quick question about these great 4bys i have a 45 ute and have been told that an easy and cheap way of liftin it is to move the diff to underneath the springs to give it a quick 4 inch lift. just wondering has anyone done this or is it not advised?
thanks for any input

i hear that in Qld a Spring Over Axel (SOA) is illegal, sombody else might want to confirm this though.

i do know however that Toyota highly advises aganst it as it makes the truck to unstable. besides, its a '40, 2 inch lift is heaps for one of these, nissan drivers put 4 inches in so they keep up with the standed 40's :D

fullmetaljacket
05-03-2008, 11:27 PM
it not as easy as putting the axle under slung that is actually the easy part, its all the hidden thigs that go along with it that have to modded to make it drivable eg:- 99.99% of the time the steering knuckles need to be cut off and rotated on the axle housing to return the correct king pin inclination (caster) and pinion to tail shaft angle, brake lines and tail shafts need to be extended, would not do it without a minum of 33"x12.5 - 35"x12.5 tyres (oterwise it would look stoopid) and proberly an axle housing retro fit with a 60series as they have a wider track..........I have look into it in depth, decided that SUA is the way toyota made it, they would have spent $$$$ in designing to create something that works 100% why change something that they got right first time........oh and I dont think you would have much change out of 1.5-2.5k + engineering if possable in your state. A set of 4" springs would be a Max of 1.5-2k. Think and reschearch it through backwards untill you know 100% what you'd get youself into including state legalities and engineering.......if you still want to do it, do it properly the first time:thumb:

nice troopy Tonka......any more pics?

pictures? yeh sure i can do that. its a kaymar hi lift jack mount, available at any ARB or 4wd Megastore, id proberly try 4wd megastore as arb charged me 60 bucks and apparantly it had about 30 bucks shipping on it.
it dose have a slight flaw tho which is easily corrected, it needs a locating pin in the bottom of it to stop it slideing off the side of the step.

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj192/ToughTonka/Image00068.jpg
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj192/ToughTonka/Image00067.jpg

i decided to look after my already crap paint bolted some convayer belt rubber down, the pin is just an upside down bolt with a hole cut in the rubber big enough for the nut to sit flush with the rubber (the nut is bigger then the hole in the jack)
realy easy to put on, the bracket uses the orginal screws for the window and you can get a left or right. i would of prefered a left one but theres a snorkel in the way...

I've been speaking with Ben Dobinson from Dobinsons springs and have tee'd up some new custom springs for the 40. They will be longer then my current set and also extend the wheel base. This means my current setup will be up for sale around the end of may early june. Thought I'd post it in here in case any of you 40 guys are interested.

Will include 4/ 4" lift dobinson leaf springs with skyjacker shocks to suit and a tough dog steering dampner for $800. All this was brand new around 12 months ago, and the 40 would have spent atleast 6 of those months off the road.

Few pics.

The shocks and dampner

thanks about the pose, was a bit scary but turned out to be a good photo. as for the 12ht iv worked out that it should bolt straight up to my 4 speed with out moving engine mounts or anything like, might need to swap bell houseing but thats easy. what i need to though is swap the box for a 5 speed at the same time and iv been told that needs the gear box mounts moving back 6 inches which makes it a little harder but oh well, just gota get the cash togeather and find a motor and box in good nick.

how much work was need to get yours done and did you swap the box over at the same time?

18-05-2008, 11:16 AM
as far as i know the 12ht and 2 h have the engine mounts in the same spot. the blocks are actually very similar. the gearbox mount on your hj47 should be the crossmember type that bolts under the front of the box. i put a 5 speed from an early hj60 into my hj47 and it fitted perfect to the crossmember. just had to modify tailshafts by 88mm (front longer, back shorter) and modify the floor cos the stick is 4 inches back from where they were on the 4 speed.

Mate - there's 3 good reasons I wouldn't have tackled that climb. Bulk lack of talent (nerve), no lockers and a SWB truck.

Sorry I can't tell you much about a 4-5 speed conversion, because I started out with a 5 speeder which made the whole job a bit easier as the 12HT bolted straight up. Just to complicate things though, the 2F engine mounts needed re-locating and ALL the wiring was all wrong. But the end result was worth the $ pain. In your case it looks like the engine will sit in the same place up front and the wiring loom shouldn't be too different. After all, all you need is to start it and stop it. Being a direct injection job, you won't need to worry about the cold start wiring, however the shutoff switchover valve will need an ignition connection. There's also lots of frilly non-essential sensors which I ignored. I think the 2H also uses an EDIG (?) throttle control. This is replaced with a throttle cable to the pump lever. I managed to obtain the throttle cable from the original HJ61 wreck and it fitted up fine.

Best of luck with the swap. You won't regret it.

Cheers

Might of been was it the one from a 84 troopy?
i had a max bid of $1,500 on it was happy it only got to $870.
My troopy originally had power steering but one of the of the previous owners flog it off, so i was lucky i had all the pulleys on the motor to match.
were you the one who tried to out bid me the last second?
cost me a $100 if it was.

nah mate I didn't bid was because I couldn't get up there to pick it up. Plus I just bought the suspension set up out of twisty's car. I am still going to look for a standard steering set up instead of fitting a box off another car if I can because I don't want to have to pay for another engineers report just for the steering. Either that or I'll have to find something else to modify to make it worth while.

hey all,

just thaught i would let you all know that i have decided to under take an engine and transmission conversion on my 1978 SWB landcruiser. the original donk (4.2L petrol with the 4 speed manual transmission) had blow-by and the transmission was tired and was whining (suspected failing rollerbearings on the input shaft). SO they are out. i have a freashly
reco-ed holden 3.8L ecotech and T700 auto with all the bits needed to run them happily.

I am curious as to wether anyone has done this conversion or knows of someone that has and may have some advise or things to look out for, and things that may prove to be a tad on the "extreamely agrovating" side of things.

ALSO if anyone needs some parts for their engine (2F series 1978 model) drop me a line and we shall work something out. i also have a 4 speed box complete but with a whine and other bits and pieces. drop a line if your after anything in perticular and ill see what i have got in the shed.

Great to see the 40's making a comeback.

Like everybody else's, mine's still a work in progress. On Monday it'll get a 21/2" high flow exhaust system to help the turbo spin up, and then its some 33" BFG's (gotta wait for the tax cheque  ) for some extra clearance under the springs as I had some issues with the Caledonia river crossings last June long weekend. The next project is to get the tacho working. It had this great little 70mm VDO 0-5000rpm unit on the old 2F, but that won't work anymore with the diesel inductive pickup from the flywheel. I'm told I have to get an external W connection out of the alternator - so I'll see what the sparky says.

I'll keep you posted.

what year is your truck Oliver, might be easyer to fit a standed tacho from a deisel, would look factory. :thumb:

Its an April '84 model. I've looked at the factory in-dash units and I'm not too keen on going that way as I'd have to cut a big square hole in the dash (that's really tough steel!) and it looks pretty ordinary anyway off to the side. In any case I've got a matching 70mm VDO voltmeter right there, so I'm hoping to attach this little barrel VDO unit to the steering column which should look really neat and only obscure the high beam tell-tale in the dash. That's the plan anyway.

april 84, wow. one of the youngest trucks iv seen.
must be one of the last, younger even then mine, its an '83, if i remember correctly was built in november.

sounds like your tacho is one of the last things you need, its a great looking truck.

I think production ended in October '84 - so that's about as late as you will get. The fact that it was a late build and really clean convinced me to buy it at the time. At 296,000km its still young and will outlive me. No.2 son has already claimed it.

The exhaust went on today and made an immediate improvement in roll-on acceleration. I'll try it up our local hill on the weekend for comparison. Should help with economy as well, as the old pipe was a patched up carry over from the 2F, and pretty asthmatic. Best $450 I've spent in a while. There's quite a bit of NVH from the engine to the body I'd like to reduce, and I think I'll start with the engine mounts. I remember that they were really hard compared to the old 2F ones. I presume they were 2H mounts? Might try to find some softer ones.

Once the 33's go on and the tacho is working that'll be it for a while as the plastic card recovers.

Cheers
Oliver

Hi all. I am a Hilux driver but just bought myself a '84 FJ40 LX SWB. This is going to be a huge project for me because at the moment she is a bucket of rust but repairable. I decided on a ground up rebuild so this will keep me busy for the next year or so. Any advise/comments welcome.

just a little bit of usless info i thought I'd share. I got this off another forum.
The FJ40 belongs to the Vatican and was the first 4x4 a Pope ever used, its actually standing in the Museo delle Carozze del Vaticano.

After the death of John XXIII, the popes adopted a Toyota Land Cruiser which permitted the pope an easy entrance and exit while being seen during open-air audiences. And it was in a Fiat Campagnola that Pope John Paul II was riding when an attempt was made on his life in 1981. Today the Popemobile has replaced the “sedia gestatoria” which has the same purpose: to make the pope visible to all the pilgrims during his entry and exit from events. The popes thus entered little by little into the culture of the automobile age, then the aviation age, bearing witness to the “technological optimism” of the times. Source (http://miniminiera.com/wp/cults/fiat-campagnola-papamobile/)

During the reign of Pope Paul VI in the 1970s, the Vatican unexpectedly acquired a four-wheel drive Toyota Land Cruiser for the purpose of addressing a growing problem: visibility. It was painted a gleaming white to call attention to its important occupant and had an elevated platform that enabled the Pope to be easily seen over crowds of people. Other utility cars were similarly outfitted including a Mercedes-Benz, a Range Rover, and a Fiat Campagnola. Pope John Paul II was riding in the Fiat on May 13, 1981 when he was shot. In a display of strength and determination, the Pope returned to St. Peter’s Square where he had been attacked only weeks before to resume his Papal duties. The specially built Range Rover and an extended wheelbase Cadillac parade phaeton complete with throne chair will both be in the Presidents, Popes and Potentates exhibition, marking the first time that two Papal vehicles have been displayed together in a museum exhibition.

Does anyone know where I can find a list of legal mods for the Stubby? I had a look at Queensland Transport website but they are very vague about mods. They only mention general mods but someone told me that they are actually vehicle specific.
What I've got in mind so far is: 2" suspension lift, 2" body lift, lockers, 33" rubber, some bar work and a winch.

you should be able to get that info from an engineer as they are the ones that have to pass it. In NSW the RTA is just as vague with their rules with mods. I myself spoke to more than one engineer just to make sure I was getting the right info when I started building my shorty.

with the rear brakes you will have to make sure that you have the right diff housing for the 60 series brakes to fit onto. you need the one that has 4 bolts holding the backing plates on. When I did this conversion to my shorty I also found out that the stub is also different because one had the axle seal in the end of the stub & the other had it in the bearing nut. So that meant I had to get some other axles as well. & like khany said "put up some pics"

Thanks for the advise. I found out there isn't musch that is legal in Queensland with regards to fourby mods. Suspension OR body lift, can't do both. 31" rubber only. They sure don't make things easy for us. You can have a look at my progress on the build up page.

Nice shot Croozy, and a great rig. Keep it coming.

The projects I can afford this year are slowly coming to and end. Just fitted a tacho and 21/2" mandrel exhaust (nothing on the scale of Kustom's awesome efforts - that's unreal), and all that's left is to fit a set of Twisty's high-rise spring bracket plates to get that 30mm of extra clearance. Saves lots of $$$ by not going to 33's, and losing power in the process. The tacho looks real neat and the exhaust has gained me half a gear. It now goes like the clappers and I can hear the turbo whistle up.

Here's some pics.

Hey Guys,

I have just aquired this 82 FJ40 with a 350 Chev. It has a power steering unit in place, but shaft has been welded, so I have to get that fixed, the 350 runs really well, but probably needs a tune.

I will be putting airlockers into it, and running 35-37 tyres on it. I will also be doing some lifting of the suspension and body.

It is in pretty good condition for a 26 year old car, and was used as a tow vehicle for pulling a trailer for the last owners for several years.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to taking it bush sometime in the near future.

I put a set of Recaro's in mine, and they are awesome! Really comfy! Sides get shagged quick from sliding in and out over them but, so if you want your trim to last I would get too high of sides.

I originally picked these up for $150 from a import wreckers, all the cloth and some of the foam was trashed, but even after retrimming them I was still under half the price of new recaro's.

As for the fuel setup, a mate runs the same setup in his 40. His has a fuel filler on each side of the tub for each serperate tank, then in front of his cente consule he has a manual valve on each line where he can let both tanks drain in, or seperate one tank from the other. Dont think he's ever had a drama with this setup.

Might be able to get some pics for you if you would like them.

Yeah would love to see those pictures if you could!

im not 100% sure what it was defected for because i bought it defected (I know shocking) but the suspension was pretty much brand new..
i was told it was defected because of rust and also the seats werent mounted right..
but i have started to gut it i will show you some of the damage..
i have had to replace the windscreen surround because it was f""ked and i have cut out the passenger floor and parts of the gutter and the 'b' pillar needs fixing.. Its going to be a big job but it is going to be worth it..
would rather fix it myself then let someone else do it and find out 5-10 years down the track that stuff it up..
im thinking i might invest in one of those rust prevention thingys i had a look at them at the adelaide 4wd show and they looked pretty good. but they are pricy!

Oh and Allivu the car looks awesome!! Love it

Their 33 x 12.5 x 15 Mongrels. Got the tires off ebay for $700 (in like new condition) and the wheels are 15 x 8 sunnies from ROH. Got them brand spankin for $65 each! so all up under $1000!
As for the tires, I had a set on my hilux in 31 x 10.5 x 15's but the car was just not heavy enough to sink em into the ground.
They fit nice and snug on the cruiser but I need some more clearance and flex cos beleive it or not, Its still got std suspension all round!
I wouldn't recomend these tires if you are going to do a lot of driving on road as you will be lucky to get 20thou out of em as they are really soft compound and chew out easy on tar, But they are great in mud and water!

Had some fixed back SASS seats in one of my old zooks...Was ok with the top off for passengers, but with the top on it was a bit of a pain to get in the back, but not impossible Depends on how often you'll have people in the back I guess, and wether its kids or adults.

yeah I got a set in mine but they have the adjustable back. they actually fold forward and allow people to get in the back(not that I have a back seat) but in my opinion they are a waste of money as they get a bit rough on the old behind once you start throwing the old girls around offroad!
At the end of the day it will be all up to what you really want to do in it!

Just out of interest Repco has seats on sale now and then. In the august sale they had a pair of adjustable buckets in black and grey for $278.........the pair......on sale. Nearly $400 regular price. Bloody perfect for an old shorty and boy do they look the part. I have toured 4 weeks at a time in my old shorty with the original bench seats and these seats would leave mine for dead. Next time they're on sale they're mine:D

Yeah he stopped fitting in the shed a long time ago. But we make many sacrifices in life. This was an easy one.
Not sure what you'd do about dust proofing the flaps, i guess gauze would do a little but i agree that it probably wouldn't do much for dust.
Forgive my ignorance but what does SOA stand for?

thought id post a pic of 1 of my 40 toys.
We live next to a large forest, and our town (castlemaine, vic) is sourounded by bush also, so i thought id pull out my spaire parts, and make a "fire truck" just in case we get a fire. it will only be good for tiny fires, or putting out stumps etc once the fire has been though., but hopfully it can free up the real fire trucks. this is a rust free body and chassis, all it needs is pair of correct mudguards (these are from a 78).
its got 31x10.5 mud tyres, dunno if its lifted, but seems to sit higher then my other 40s.
only real problem is its a 3 speed,. hopefully first gear is not to fast in the bush
paint is only from spray can, and yet to paint guards and roof a bright white.
got 1 water tank, its originally a petrol station fuel tank, so its prob a bit big, but our local farm supplies here has tanks in stock

Is that a PTO winch on the red fire truck??
i heard they are awesome and will pull your car up a tree??
what do you think of them?

stepto and son
08-11-2008, 01:54 PM
yep, genuine toyota pto, im guessing early 60s, maby even late 50s
ive had a few pto winches, i like them because they dont drain the battery, but there downside is a small pin that is supposed to snap if the winch is overloaded. (ushally snaps b4 the tuck is unbogged, or dosent snap when supposed to and breaks the winch gears)

id prefer a elec winch, as they can be swapped onto any 4wd, where as these old pto winches require the corect pto gearbox for your truck, and the shafts can interfeir with the aproach angle
1 benifet of pto, is the gearbox has a outlet on the rear as well, and the winch has a input shaft on both sides (so winch can be bolted to rear of cruiser if required.

cammo
08-11-2008, 09:36 PM
yeah i havent ever had a winch but i was looking into them and i think the pto winch would be better for the cruiser because of the drain on the battery part..
but yeah as i said i have never had them so i dunno!

Hey I'm a new guy to the forums, and have just purchased a 1984 BJ42 as a project job.
Just wondering where would I go about getting used parts for it, specifically the front panel that surrounds the lights and goes down to the chassis.
Does anyone know where to get 40 series parts or does anyone have spares?
Thanks.

that's the thing fellas, it has brand new heavy duty Rockcrawler springpacks underneath her from 4WD1.......brand spankers. Why would rockcrawler bring out a suspension package that would have her dragging her arse. It can be fixed with 2'' shackles which I have, I put one on the rear and it forces the spring pack to compress to get it on..............the compression should be left up to the weight that I put in it.........not by putting the bloody thing on.

with the standard shackles the spring bolts up beautiful........just that terrible rake.

I sent the pic to Kirk from 4WD1 to see what his thoughts are, I am 99.9% sure they are the right springs. Anyway see what he says, will post how I go. I was gonna just leave it but everytime I look at it she looks like she has old saggy shitty suspension, no matter which way I look at it she just doesn't look right...................and you two just confirmed it.

Ah well see what happens...........cheers.

The springs that are in my shorty I got off twisty. When he first put them in his they were labeled wrong (the fronts were labeled as rears & vice versa) & he had the same problem. He said he swapped them around & all was good, maybe that might be the case with what you have been given. Just a thought.

24-11-2008, 12:54 PM
Only thing is croozy the backs are 9 leaf and the fronts are 8 leaf (rockcrawlers). When I took the original springs out the fronts were 7 leaf and the backs were 8 so I put the heavier leaf packs in the rear which makes sense to me. If the missus ever gets off the bloody phone I can give Kirk a call....she can talk for hours!!!!!!!!!!!

Twisty
24-11-2008, 01:01 PM
The old std. packs on my 40 had 7 leafs in the front, 6 in the rear. So maybe yours are also in back to front? From memory the rears springs are slightly longer but, so that might be one other thing to check.

A mate got a set of rockcrawler leaves for his 60 at the start of the year and had the same problem (sagging in the back), and 4wd1 had sent out the wrong leafs, so that could be it too. 4wd1 ended up sorting it all for him but.

24-11-2008, 01:24 PM
All done fellas......they are in the wrong way. The springpacks aren't labelled but Kirk brought the info up on his computer (9 front/8 rear). Bit unlucky there because the old packs on mine were 7 leaf front and 8 leaf back so I went off that............put the 9 in the back and 8 in the front. Anyway is all sorted. Will post a pic again when they are in the right way. Bugger me all that work for nothing:D Cheers fellas.
