I own a swb GQ patrol and currently have 4 inch spring lift with rancho adjustables and 2 inch body i want more travel with out going any higher i was thinking for the front a 5 link but woundering wheather to use coi overs or to buy longer shocks as the bump stop is preety long and the coil could redirect itself
And on the back I was thinking get a A frame but still confused on wheather coil over shocks will give me extra travel with out going higher.
I've noticed some coil overs are pretty long so i wouldn't mind it sticking through the back floor but i don't think this is very legal in Queensland any thoughts on how i can get more travel would be great. ;D

John
my mates got the same rig as you and it nearly touches the sky its that high. he made his own 5 link front end and i think he's only running long travel shockies and springs in the rear. it is very high and flexes extremely well. he's also running simex ET 2's x 35" and they seem to clear the panels i think.

Do you still have the sway bars connected as they will limit travel a fair bit especially with that much lift. If you do next time you are offroad disconnect them and see what happens

why do you want more travel? Do you want the car to perform better or do you want it be a cool ramp travel beast. Too much flex is just that, too much. Alot of times a car with heaps of flex can't put down enough traction whilst a stiffer car will drive thru albeit lifting a wheel.
You need to consider why you want more travel, would gearing and lockers be a better option. With these even if you do pick a wheel up you can still drive throough the obstacle. Anyway just a thought

yea very valid point although the front of GQ patrols are very stiff deffinately need to do something with the front but a i want to go all out and build a rock crawling and hill climb machine

sounds like i've got the same set up as you on mine....mind you i'm only running 32's .. even so never had a problem..
apart from the odd diff pumpkin getting in my way.. ;D ;D ;D
the front is very stiff...mind you i've only got the sway bar disconnects on the rear which doesn't really make too much difference..
I don't know what you've got on yours, but have you got all the adjustable arms/bars etc??
try looking at the shock hoops for the added shock length without too much extra height on the front.
and since you've got a body lift, do something along the same lines for the rear, but maybe have the shockies top mount centred in the middle of the chassis ;D ;D ;D
Front options - drop brackets, drop radius arms, 5 link.. If you want it to climb hills well, you might want to look at changing the angles on the rear arms as well..
