got to love an outback pub. the lions den on trip up the cape, the blue heeler at kyuna between winton and cloncurry, and williams creek hotel on our run years ago from coober pedy to marree. 3 great pubs that spring to mind off the top of my head. half the time i only remember being in a town previously when we pass by the pub.

We tend to stop at them all and check them out for a meal etc, hem. Williams Creek and Maree are certainly 2 notable ones. Noccundra, Nindagully. Most have incredible history, some have been done up and are a credit to their owners. We have met the some of the best people in this country in outback pubs.

This is my 3L Series IV. Bought 2nd hand in May 2006, standard except for the bullbar and towbar. I've added TJM 2" lift and 15mm spacer, XGS shocks, steering damper, winch, black widow drawers, cargo barrier, dual batt system, spots, dtronic, 2 3/4" mandrel bent exhaust, 2 hyclones, gmc UHF, Roof Rack, Codan 9323 HF and a heap of other minor stuff.

Ordered; front locker, safari snorkel. Either Cooper ST's or Goodyear muddies. Trying to get 6, 16 X 8 steelies. The alloys are 17" are there are limited options re tyres in 17".

Anyway, that's the basics. A work in progress. The photos were taken in October somewhere between Qld and Broken Hill.

We called into the william creek pub/servo/shop this year only 10 mins after a change of ownership, and we had a ball there for the time we spent there. This place is amazing- words cannot describe inside the this pub. awsome. Better than the birdsville ( or as we named it turdsville )

When we walked into the place I remember just thinkin "Holy S#&*T". I think the locals enjoy seeing the reaction on the faces. I have always felt comfortable and welcome in these places.

Humpty Doo pub ... may not be a true "outback" pub. But one of the Territory's many classics.

The Cuttabri Wine Shanty

Cuttabri is the area referred to around the Historic Cuttabri Wine Shanty, believed to be the only wine shanty still operating in Australia.

Cuttabri Wine Shanty was undoubtedly a hub of activity in Cobb and Co days. This Wine Shanty enjoys the distinction of holding the second licence ever issued in Australia from 1882 and is believed to be the only one still operating in Australia today. The Wine Shanty is open every day for refreshments, meals and a dose of nostalgia. Cuttabri is located 38km South West of Wee Waa and 31km East of Pilliga. Many people in the Shire claim to be from "Cuttabri" but this generally means they reside closer to Cuttabri than they do Pilliga or Wee Waa.
Certainly worth a visit.

Cuttabri is the oldest continuous wine shanty licence in Australia, it was the send oldest but the 1st recently closed down. (so I am told) The curent owners are planing a caravan park and accomodation in the future and have a lot of history of the area and the buildings etc.

Fred Brophy (Yes the boxer) has a ripper pub out at Cracow Qld, a few hrs west of Bundy. We played a gig at Cracow for the local equestrian finals a few years ago, and stopped in at Fred's for a few beers on the way home. The place is like a living breathing museum, there's every bloody thing there! And Fred and Sandi are top hosts, to boot.

I never took any pics, so I borrowed this one...

I miss that place, except my ex-wife lives there. And that is a good enough reason to steer clear of the whole state!!! LOL.

A great outback pub near Bundy is the BUCCA pub. They usually have a Sunday session out there with various bands, and the atmosphere is great!!! When I left Bundy (over 2 years ago) the guys running it had just come from the famous Blue Heeler Pub. In summer you can take your swimmers and have a dip at Bucca Crossing while you're there. I used to take my mutts for a swim there on the way home from any jobs I done out Yandaran way simply cause it's a great little swimming hole ;)

I'll second that, Fred and Sandy are great hosts, and sure they've got a lot of interesting memerabilia hanging about, but i think the real attraction at Cracow is the backpacker barmaids that they hire.:drink:
