If you have the design why not take it to one of your local fabrication shops and have one made out of alloy. Or if you cant design it yourself, Paramount performance in Wylie st Toowoomba could design and make one as they do custom plentiums and the like, Kerry down there is a wizz with a mig or tig welder.

I'm doing one for my 4Runner soon. I've bought a K&N pod filter and am getting a box made out of massive alloy tube. So the pod filter will be incased in alloy, and connected to the snorkel. I'm just using the pod for now, well soon, when it's back on the road, but it aint going to be too offroad friendly until I get the box made.
I attached a quick sketch of what it will look like.

Hopefully thats big enough to work out what it's like.
Rods Enginneering at Maroochydore a pretty handy with Alloy, they repaired rims for me before, and make heaps of custom fabriocation stuff.
Another option is you local truck shop, they have a heap of different size air filter boxes there??

Have you thought about using something like these? They take a pod type filter inside.

Also have you taken a look at the new XR8 utes? They run an enclosed pod type fiter by the look of it and are very compact too.

They look neat, pretty much the same idea as I was planning on doing, now I've got some pics to show the guy making it, thanks for the info GoJeep. Price's are pretty expensive there but, and there american by the looks of it ...
You still keen for a filter box Bartso? I'm looking at getting mine made before my Fraser trip in August...

the XR8's use a shite load of room... at least twice what the XR6's do...my XR's only running the flat filter... ;D ;D
only thing i noticed with your design there twisty, how are you gonna put a retaining clamp on your filter?? if one at all??

Yeah Lachie, I started to rethink my design now it's getting cloer to being made. The retaining clamp would be those toolbox style ones and would go on the cylinder part of the filter. Then the lid on the right would clamp on with them....
With my first one it would have been hard to get the filter in and out as well, so I'll post my new refined design soon. Hopefully this arve.

The one I saw that was about the same as the size in the second photo I posted. It was at the 4x4 show and was on the XR8 RV ute I think they call it. The one that is raised and with the rear locker!

how do you find the heat shielding on the metal case??
wouldn't it heat up fairly easily? have you thought about wrapping the case in insulation?? - and would it make a huge difference anyways... ;D :-\ ;D
