100 series [man] with whining g/box

The gearbox [man] on my 1999 100 series [146000km] has started making a whining noise in 1st and 2nd.

This is only noticeable when i drive with the radio/cd off.

Should I look at pulling the box out to check it out?

is the noise any more noticeable in low range?? (spining gbox gears faster) and is the noise there when in 3rd and 5th aswell when was the gbox oil last changed/have you done any water crossings lately.

??? Unfortunately the noise is the same in low range.
The oils where changed about 6-8 weeks ago, and [this is Africa] no water crossings since.
