G'day, me and my boss from work are wanting to do a day trip to newnes in november some time, is anyone interested in coming along? this may turn into a camping trip, don't know tho cause it's not that far from sydney.

It would be good if someone could come along who knows the area well.

I have done it as a day trip from Gosford with a couple of vehicles when doing a reckie.
Left 6am & made it back about 8pm that night.
Did plenty of tracks, including Spanish Steps, Powerlines, Ranger Bobs, Sunnyside Lookout and Lost City in the day, but it was a very full day.

hey people to do the spanish steps you need a key i have done them before kinda cool if it is a cool date i might be able to get them if ya all want to go that way but not sure. but don't count on it. basicly it is alot of steps down bigish with the side of the track easy. then a big long easy water hole thing and then a rock surface climb out that can be hard but one car will make it up easy and would beable to snatch the others up. we got a stock 2003 pajero alone it. ok then. so still trying to find out when my nav week end is on.

that's sortof the only way in that i know of appart from going thru lithgo, and i don't know if we will be able to book spanish steps as we're not a club. my boss knows the way to lost city and glow worm tunnel, anyhting else we do will have to be suggested by someone else.

We go there a lot. You can take two ways in. One through Zig Zag (the railway) which is the track from Newens state forest at the top of the valley (There are some Aboriginal hand paintings the see on the way down) which is fun and the other is the turn off after you go through Lithgow and head to Mudgee, you will se the signs to Newens. If you’re into some fun there is a great track that heads out of the valley just across from black fellows hand road which is the track that leads to the Wollomai Plateau and eventually on the highway to Mudgee. You need low range for this climb though but it is great and changes from escarpment rock to a lush forest.

We are going there at the end of October so I’ll leave some wood for ya, have fun 

hey spimon i think it will as he got one through with my club on ht's and the glow worm tunnel is a dirt rd to it and the lost city is easy junior 80 has been joking about his bosses car as weak. and mate any of the harder stuf just drives along side a rd so most stuff is optional but i think it is a nic4e relaxed fun week end.

anyway, I don't really want to lead everyone around the joint. I have hiked around there with scouts and a few times with a mate stalking 4 legged things but never in a fourby. so a bit of prior experience from someone in the know is handy.

I planned this as a one day'er cause the 12th is a sunday but there's nothing stopping you staying the night. I have work on monday and since the boss is coming I can't really call in sick.

nah before i would have needed to strape them to my bonnet to get home as my head lights were stuffed. remember that deep water it just got in the lights and wore a bit more of the shinny stuff away. now i got sealed beams only 50/50 watts but still good considering i only paid 30 a peice. and the reason for the constant reminder is we have went out their with the clubs a few times and only ever on or two people remember their tourch.

yeah newnes is my new favourite place. everywhere you go theres a bit of a tricky bit, or you can just stick to the easy track or main road. it caters for everyone.

I went down there today with my boss to check out a few tracks, found a couple of good ones but mostly just dirt roads. didn't get down to the lost city or glow worm tunnell.

in the middle of no-where we did met a bunch of about 20 guys all on really old tractors chugging around the place. and you should have see the looks on people's faces when they see us drive past them up a really steep slippery incline in a moke. yes we did it all with a moke. it's one of only two 4wd one's ever to be built. but those guys in the patrols and rovers didn't know that. lol.

I would say that we would have to meet up opposte the RAAF base at 0730hrs to get to clarence by 0830. the spot will be the car park next to the information centre on the left hand side as you go into richmond.

I hope some of you have a better idea of where some good tracks are down there as I don't, hehe.

I did try a few deep mud holes, I had the strap ready as there were heaps of other fourbies cruising around. did have to live thru the pain of being pulled out by a moke tho. hahaha

3. Dont brake something testing it out tommorow arvo
I'm in. Wouldn't mind metting opposite the RAAF base / somewhere in windsor / rhichmond and convoying from there.

I'll let you know tommorow arvo if I'l be a starter but at this stage everything is looking good.

Had a ****ing awesome time fellas..

When you left the camp site, i tried to give chase.. and i almost caught up to the huge cloud of dust you created! BUT

I hit this corner at around 70 (stupid me) and the back end kicked out.. locked them up and just got of the brakes in time to hit a tree and slide into a ditch. Lets just say my undies where not white anymore.

No Panel Damage thank god!, only thing i managed to destroy was a mud flap! If i had not have gotten off the brakes it woulda been upside down for Dannyboy.

All in all though, i had an awesome time, Broken Window, 2 x ****ed Valve Stems ( I woke up to find one flat this morning )

And i also learnt alot about my car, and some very valuable lessons about speed and the way my car handles.

I have some pics and movies, will be sure to host them for ya!

And Simon.. sick pics mate:)

Geesh, Dan, ya crazy bastard! Obviously a broken window and 2 tyres wasn't enough damage for one day :D

Keiren and I both made it through that mud we got stuck in earlier, on the way home. Speed was the answer ;)
(that and I think the puddle was a little more empty than before)

ahaha.. i honestly wasn't trying to do it guys, i guess the corner just tightened and me going onto the brakes didn't help me alot. Got a photo of the lines i made doing it too, will upload it.

It was nice to meet all you blokes too, i think some more trips are in order (this time with less broken bits)

that puddle was overflowing last weekend.

I had an awesome time, I love driving those deep washouts and getting a wheel off the ground. not so much a fan of mud. only cos you gotta clean it afterwards.

Thanks Guys, Really great day had by me and my son. He slept like the dead on the way home. Made me print out all the photos for "news" the next day. Now I'm thinking should I put money away for my tax or spend it on body lift, 35' muds, lokkers etc. Interesting to see what different setups can do to a trucks capabilities. Expected next morning to find oil under the MU but all OK just a few scrapes. I'll post some pics but also got some good vids' of the Nissan ute scrambling up the trails (before CV).
