yeah im not looking at doing the job myself. im quite happy with my 3l diesel :D. but i was under the impression it was illegal for any engine bigger than a 3.8L v6 in a hilux???

There are a heap of 2wd ones around here with 253s in them but i can't say i have seen one with a 308 or chev so im not sure what capacity is allowed. Only seen a couple of v8 4wd luxs but
In QLD you can fit up to a 4.2ltr in a 2wd hilux and upto a 5.0 ltr in a 4wd one.

Re: The Lexus V8 install.... looks like the air inlet is on the other side... which would make for a tricky snorkel install... gotta consider ALL things if you want to repower your lux and set it up for off road use too.
out of curiosity......... how many Kw does the Lexus V8 generate?
Depending on the year and what it came out of 180kw up to 208kw, I think the one I have and am in the process of dropping into my hilux is 190kw. Its only 110kw more than I had ;D

those things drink fuel like a camel drinks water don't they. didn't i read somewhere that they get only 25-30L per 100k's offroad. i may be wrong but i hope you're freindly with your local servo operator.
The lux doesn`t even do 5000kms a year, so why would I care about fuel usage? But even if it did 50,000kms a year like it used to I wouldn`t care as I love V8`s and power.
Cost is
$1700 for half cut
$1400 for adaptor
Then there will be exhaust, engineers, and a hand full of small things like taco interface and speedo etc.

how do you think the gearbox and drivetrain will hold up?
Pm GUTS, he is going through what you want to do right now. Plus the fact that I want you to pester the shite outta him ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Gearbox will brake, but I don`t care as I have spares and once the spares are all gone I`ll put a stronger one in.
Diffs will brake but I don`t care because I used to brake them with the turboed 2.8 anyway, plus I have cruiser diffs (60 series front with IFS hub spacers which make it 3 inches wider and longfields, 80 series rear) allready lined up for it but they an`t going under it untill I do the coils in about 12months time.

biggest problem with a 1uz is they dont make huge low down tourque they make most of there tourque round the 3000 rpm range
but in a hilux that shouldnt be a problem
mate i currently putting on into a 4 runner here in bris
a 1uz will not chew 25l/100 anywhere unless u intend to rev the dick out of it all day every day
they r more economical than a commodore v6 and make more power than the v8
pluss they r bullet proof in the states there are 1uz twin turbos running stock bottomends makeing over 1000hp :)
The 1UZ does make more HP than a stock base model 5ltr EFI but it makes a little less torque. Its also a lot harder to get parts for in Aus.
But it also has a lot of HP that is realy easy to get hold of realy cheaply.
