Has anyone had any experience with the custom drop shackles made by either Climax Suspension ]] (http://www.climaxsuspension.com.au/ or Superior Engineering http://www.superiorengineering.com.au/shackles.htm

Do they work? How well do they work and are they worth the money? Do tailshafts tend to fall out? Any other problems?

Has anyone had them successfully engineered/complianced so they can drive them on the road?

Thanks

Im quite sure that both are legal because of the fact that they can be locked in the closed position.

I'm like to know how they get them thru Dept T'Port approval as it states that no part of the suspension can be welded and those shackles have welds in them.

I have not yet seen drop shackles that have been engineered.

My mate had a set of the climax drop shackles on his hilux, which also 4" parobolic springs and he really wasn't happy with them. He said they hardly opened up at all and eneded up removing them and replacing them with 2" longer shackles.

I think the superior shackles would be the better ones as they allow the spring to twist as well as let it drop.

A mate has superior shackles fitted to this hilux and they are excellent as long as you have longer shocks.

In nsw, fitting any non-standard shackle, welded or not is illegal and cannot be engineered. It also wont (or shouldn't) pass rego inspections.

Twisty_toy,

Does your mate still have his old Climax shackles? Does he want to sell them at all?

Sorry, this is a little bit off topic, but has anyone else noticed that ‘Pat’ has dropped off his ‘Climax Shackled’ of ‘Otis’?

Have a look in the latest mag, because he’s gone back to his old shackles he made himself.

Yeah I have noticed that, I think they've been off Otis for a while, not sure on the reason but??

you know the issue where pat rolled or semi-rolled otis, i think they were having a few troubles with the shackles ie destroying the leaf's. So mabey thats why he's taken them off.

Mabey we should ask him directly?

I thought it might have been something to do with when he started competing.

Does Pat still visit, I haven't seen a post from him in a while??

i dunno where he's disappeared to...

don't you get a lot of lateral movement from those drop shakles though?? and wouldn't the springs end up binding up on them selves because of it??( eventually breakin) ;D

I've spoken to a mate that owns a spring works and he reckons they are no good as you can't control the opening of the shackle. and they have a tendancy to want to tip you over if your rig is borderline. he has mates who have removed them for this reason. i thought otis was running superior shackles not climax.

are shocks a problem when drop shackles are fitted. with such a long travel needed do they cause problems when they are fully compressed ;Dl

You are better off spending the considerable $$$$ on quality springs and shocks. Alot of people use tham as a "fixit" for poorly setup suspension systems and all they do then is exaggerate the problems. They can destroy springs with the strange way they work. In my opinion they are gimmicky tools for ramp travel queens. A well thought out and setup suspension will be a much better investment
