I am looking for anyone's advise.

I am looking at putting a good set of extractors(no brand picked out yet) on to my 97 v8i 3.9l Discovery.

has anyone done this or know of the expected result.
I just want to know if it is worth the cost or is something else a better idea. I will also be looking at a chip upgrade or remap if anyone has any ideas there as well.

I am keen to make sure I am spending money in the right area and not just adding things on that weigh me down.

:)thanks in advance

Hey Big Bugga,
Try the Range Rover and Discovery Forum I know a few have put extractors on and they will steer you in the right direction

No No you have it wrong, you dont hit the wrong keys they are just not in the right position for your fingers

OK I will take the keys off & put them where they should be.

It doesn't stop me hitting 2 at once though.

I put Pacemaker Extractors on my GQ TD42, and it did nothing....

Some people have to defend their purchases of $100's specially when it does NOTHING!

but say it as it is..

Save your $$...

You dont say what type you had put on, but from others I have spoken too it seems that either custom or at the very least a good brand name set will always give a marginal improvment over standard.
I also understand that if there is problem else where in the moter that affect performance, then untill it is found and fixed nothing else will work right either.

I guess I should have asked this at the start but one 4wd specialist advised me not to increase power any more as I would loose off road capability,
How can this be when there are trucks out there with massive amounts of power on tap with out even trying?

G'day,
Extractors are always better than a standard manifold. They are not fitted at the factory as manifolds can be cast and extractors can not. They work better cause they are tuned, and as the pistons fire the emissions are relased in a funny order and get caught up in a manifold...extractors are cut to a tuned length for better flow...look at the two things next to each other and you will see.

A 4wd is not a sport car and never will be. You may rev more freely and make better power with extractors, but cause of the huge fly wheel and low gearing you will hardly know the difference off the mark at the lights...although the differnce is def. there and you get better econony.

For a V8 it wont be cheap, as you have two heads, but it is a far better idea to go for extracotrs than for a bigger exhaust and free flow muffler. Youd be looking at over $600 easy.

Big tyres, good suspension and a lockable diff is what makes an offroad rig. top end power is not always the best. thats why diesels are great.

Hope that helps a little
Dave

Thanks Dave,

Mostly knew what you put in and do not expect to be able to launch my Disco like a sports car.

Just wanted to know if the cost would be worth it, or will it just make a nice expencive rumble.

From what I have read in some other forums from people who have done it to Disco's already, the small power increase is there. Also fuel consumption is ment to be brought down a bit.

So it looks like I will be adding it to my list of things to do.
