G'day,
Any ideas on how to PRESERVE fuel? I mean how to keep it at its "natural goodness". Any additives?
I seem to remember reading somewhere that it starts to degrade after a while if stored..
Thanks,
Mark

My 2wd triton was getting around 400 - 450 a tank..
so i started running it on PULP (95 ron) advanced the timing to 8deg and chucked a piece of flexible hose to the air cleaner and took it to behind the grill so it gets cold air and my economy has gone to 500 and tank and thats normal driving.. 120 kmp highway and normal around town,

Thanks CC,
but I meant how to PRESERVE fuel, not CONSERVE fuel ;D
With an FJ 40 there's no such thing as economy :'( but I reckon I can save a bit for an upcoming trip by storing some (fuel).Just trying to figure out how to keep it fresh.

just put it in a container and protect from moisture and air as much as possible.

Cause of my experience with motorcycles, i would say it takes about 4-5 months for fuel to go bad, 6-7 before you have starting issues (coughing, needing choke for longer etc.)...
There is no real way to preserve it, some have said that octane booster with lead additives helps but i've neer used it. Just make sure that your containers seal well and dont let the air out when they expand, dont use steel containers as they leak fumes and dont store it in the sun. Usually i just try to buy fuel just before i use it as on our property fuel could be sitting round for over 6 months before using, pitty out bikes and my patrol dont run on diesel...
hope this helped.

Yep,
That'll do. I wondered if there was a chemical/additive I could put in the fuel. But just keeping the air out of it, and keeping it away from the sun and heat ,that makes sense.
Thanks fellas,
Mark
