I am going to build a dream Suzi to do the Outback and Malaysian challenge in
I intend to have 3td from a patrol t700 and 36in extreme trekkers,
What should I do with the rest?
Budget $25000 ???
I can think of easier engines to use for a conversion. I would have thought a common rail TD with all the electrics would not have been something sought in a comp vehicle for muddy events like the Rainforest etc.
I would think of some other low tech 4cyl TD with an intercooler).

Thanks for the reply I think you are right, have you any engine sugestions? Or should I just do the Otis thing and chuck in a V6?
Low tech TD would give more reliability and better moisture resistance
The old KISS principal would definitly apply in this case.... the simpler the better

Buy a Patrol. You wont be able to compete in outback Challenge in a vehicle like that. The beauty of the Suzuki is its weight and size the minute you start putting huge engines in you need to replace so many drivetrain parts etc that you end up with a car that will handles strangely and be more likely to break.
A suzuki with say a Vitara 1.6, a S3 rockhopper and lockers and say a 34" will be way more capable than a suzuki with a 3L patrol engine, and 36" centipedes.
I think you may need to research this a lot more before you start pouring money into it.
You will also find that it will be nearly impossible to get a Suzuki with a 3l engine and 36" tyres engineered and road worthy which are requirements for some events like OBC

Yeah, buy a car that's dead boring and like everyone else! Hey, rather than discouraging originality, let's encourage it! No problem is insurmountable and every conversion is possible! And with an original rig like that, I reckon you're more likely to feature in the pages of 4WD Monthly!

I've got nothing against individuality but if his plan is to build for Outback Challenge & Rainforest Challenge then he wont be able to compete with his plans.
Also it is not going to work very well because of all the extra weight being added. There are better ways to build an individual vehicle.
We have a guy in our club (he was in 4WD Monthly about issue 62 the brown Extreme LJ) who is now running MQ Patrol diffs and is saving some $$$ to run 39" Iroks. But he still has a very light vehicle.
