Ever get wheel wobbles after playin in mud, you know, the really gooey stuff that sticks like s**t to a blanket?
I remember the first time I finished playing in mud and was driving off I thought I had buggered the front end as the wheels were unevenly covered with the sticky gooey crap and the steering wheel was shaking like a leaf.
It feels like the wheels are way out of balance .
The mud stuck on rims and tyres act like balancing weights (unbalancing the wheels though) and if left too long the wobbles can start to do damage to the rest of your drivetrain eg: wheel bearings, so the sooner they get a good clean the better.

I'm sure most seasoned mud bashers have had it happen. I've had it happen on 2wds too ;D Never had it serious enough that a bit of higher speed wouldn't fix it though.
If it's happening on the front (prolonged and severe) it probably wouldn't do your steering joints any favours either.

Could this have anything to do with a faulty steering dampner?

Thats right, the Rodeo's dont have 'em. I guess the Isuzu engineers deemed them unnecessary on a Rodeo. I dont know which other Isuzu 4x4's do have them but there is a cast-in eyelet on my draglink (for a dampener?) but nothing opposite to attach the other end of one to. :-\
But then again the Isuzu's like other makes, do share some interchangeable parts between models so who knows......
I made a few enquiries soon after I bought the Rodeo about a steering shock but no supplier had one listed for them, most of them just suggested if they were'nt a factory fitment then they didnt need one.
On the other hand I swapped posts with a guy on Outers who put one on his Rodeo a few years ago but had to buy a bracket from 4 Way to bolt the other end to. When I asked 4 Way about it they didnt know of one for it so go figure ::)
Still, I think I'll fab a bracket up and get a dampener anyway since the 33's spend a fair bit of time on there now ;D

Just remembered why most Rodeo's dont have a steering damper.
I recall reading some tech on an Isuzu site way back and they said the earlier Rodeo's had them because they had bump steer problems but they got it sorted with the later models.
Also got told a damper on mine would make the steering too heavy and put more strain on the stg box but I doubt a small bore light duty one would hurt it, and get a more positive feel on the tracks too.

Hey sudso,
If you get one , then get one for manual steering not power steering. They have a smaller bore (like the one on the 45) but this may take a bit more research
That way it should not affect your steering as much ;D
Steve,
I have had that happen too...took me a while to figure it out :P

i used to get the wobbly thing alot and i found by running 16 inch rims over 15's cleared the mud out easyer due to the gap.
